I woke earlier than usual, around three am, I would usually be awake by five or six at the latest, but it wasn't uncommon for me to have certain out-of-balance sort of days, in was an uncommon, but as well as a regular occurrence, a collision of opposites.
But I got up as per usual, taking an extra long shower as I felt the urge to cleanse myself more than what was considered the norm, I was confused by my own excitement yet, nervousness? I shrugged it off, my moods always have been somewhat irregular, so I continued the tedious task of tending to my makeup, clothing and breakfast, waking Ryan up in he process, I waited for Ryan to tend to himself as I leant against a counter in the kitchen, slowly taking sips of my coffee, savoring the bitter taste that was, to me at least, one of the few unappreciated joys in this world.Ryan startled me as he walked into the kitchen, raising his voice as he yelled an unnecessarily loud, "Goodmorning," at me, thankfully my mug was empty, so I hadn't messed any hot liquids on myself when I was frightened, I raised my eyebrows, curious as to why he was so happy, he seemed to emit pleasant feelings, happiness all the way round,
I set the mug in the sink and gathered my bags, picking up my car keys from the small casket that was set on the island in the middle of the kitchen, motioning for Ryan to come along, he wanted to join me at band practice today, which I didn't mind all too much.I had spoken to the lead singer on the phone, formally apologizing to the lead singer, who I found out was Maria Brink, who was extreme forgiving.
Ryan snapped me out of my trance, waving his hand in front of my vision, I shot him a playful grin, getting into the drivers seat and starting up the car, after dumping my guitars and various other bags into the trunk, Ryan buckled himself into the passengers seat, immediately taking he aux-cord and allowed my car's speakers to pump AFI songs as we made our twenty minute drive to what I assume was, Maria's house for band practice, I had night shift so, for the time being, we didn't have to rush, I start at three pm and end around seven pm, allowing a time slot for me to get ready for my movie date with Ryan,
It hit me like a ton of bricks,
I was going on a date tonight.I started trembling, I hadn't been on a date before, it was my first date, with a 18 year old, my best friend, or a best friend with benefits? I'm not sure of the technical term, but that's what it was, he was barely legal and I was heading into my twenties, I sighed, trying to calm the loud debates that consumed my thoughts, Ryan must have sensed my distress as he placed his hand on my shoulder, trying to comfort me, which worked, he always had this connection with me, I'm not sure why, but since he was thrown into the prison I resided in, we instantly sort of, connected?
Now don't call me cliche, because I'm far from it, I love Ryan, but I can't imagine us getting very far as a couple, I mean we get along, but something just doesn't sit right.
"Devin, you haven't spoken since we left, and now we're outside that ladies house and you haven't moved an inch." I looked over to the rambling boy, he always managed to make me smile, whether he was trying to, or not.
I simply nodded, getting out of the car and hauling my guitars out of the trunk, walking to the already opened garage, being greeted by a lovely blond lady in bright red lipstick, this must be-
"I'm Maria, we spoke on the phone." I hummed in response, greeting her with a quick hug before introducing myself,
"Devin, or Ghost, as most call me."
"Well, Ghost, I'll go call the guys and we can start, you learnt the chords that I emailed to you, right?"
"Yeah, it's not too far off from what I'm used to playing." She smiled and walked off, I turned to Ryan who was sitting on the floor, marveling at the rest of the band's equipment, he caught me eyeing him and he chuckled and blew a kiss, I jokingly caught it and swooned, which caused us to erupt with laughter, earning glances from the band as soon as they walked in.• • •
It was time for me to leave, as I had a job to go to, we said our farewells and I packed up my stuff, Ryan followed and got in the car, I started the engine and dropped him off at our apartment before heading off to work, not bothering to change.
Allie, my coworker, engulfed me with a warm hug on sight, I laughed and pried her off, setting my keys in my backpack before following her into the bar, and taking my place behind the counter.
Allie had probably gotten bored within five minutes and that's when she came over to my station and decided to help out, her helping, consisted out of her talking up the cute looking men and women in the hangout, and her occasionally giving out her number to those she found aesthetically pleasing, I sighed, handing out drinks to whoever called or rather so demanded my services.
"Hey mister Ghost," Allie hollered, I glanced in her direction, she was motioning for me to come closer, which I did, to several customers dismay,
"There's going to be a battle of the band's here tomorrow night! Your bands performing, right?" She questioned, keeping her focus on the small poster, "It's not my band, but yeah, I guess we are." I replied, before becoming overrun by the amount of customers willing to rip out my jugular for not attending to their alcoholic needs.Tonight's shift isn't going to be all that great, but at least I'll get to watch one of my favorite movies, with my favorite friend, later on.
Authors note
I didn't have this proof read as I wanted to get stuff out fast, because it might be a long while before I can put out anything again.I'm sorry if it causes any inconveniences.
