Do you remember when I said I'd always be there.
Ever since we were ten, baby.

They had been friends since either of them could remember. They where those two boys in town that you always pictured together in recollection and when apart looked like strangers....

They were currently having a sleepover to celebrate Kian's eighth birthday, while Jc had just turned ten.

"come in here!" Kian's childish giggle brings a smile to Jc's face and he quickly shuts off the lights before climbing into there sloppily made fort.

With a lantern as there only light they talk for hours. Discussing things from which Disney movie is best (Jc thinks its clearly toy story but kian disagrees saying finding nemo is awwwessomeee) to what kian got as peasants from his family.

"what did you wish for?" Jc asks clearly falling asleep even though its just past nine.

"can't tell" kian mumbles just as tired.

"you can tell me anything" Jc's eyes begin to droop

"I wished that you'd never leave me" kian has tears in his eyes and he sniffles burying his head deeper into Jc's side.

"Ki... don't be silly I'll always be there" and with that they both fall asleep

When we were out on the playground playing pretend.

Jc never knew what there closeness would come to... all he knew was they he enjoyed playing pirate and sword fight with kian. Using there community playground's play set as a pirate ship or castle, where he would always save kian from the bad guys that wanted to hurt him and be rewarded with a victory hug after.

And slowly it happened... they both grew up... Jc watch kian mature and change until he was graduating middle school and about to go into what Jc liked to call 'the he'll that is high school'.

But despite there growing age the two boys remained best friends. If anything the faded years had only managed to draw them closer together.

In that time kian realized he was gay while Jc had come to terms with the fact that he was bi. Of course in our cruel homophobic world many people resented them... but it didn't matter... because they had each other.

It was also during this sequence of events that Jc began to feel... different... when he was around kian. His young sophomore mind couldn't quite put a label on it... All he knew was that he got butterflies whenever kian was around, felt like yelling from the rooftops whenever he made him smile and wanted to rip his own heart out whenever he saw the boy upset...

He couldn't put a label on it but he understood one thing... it meant kian was special... he was the only one that had ever made him feel that way... and all Jc wanted was to show kian how much he meant to him.
