The smell of cooking meat and potatoes filled the house. Adelyne sat at the dinner table boredly examining the crystal glasses and plates, while Skye stirred the thick pot full of stew on the stove. Skye lifted the spoon from the stew up to her mouth, and took a sip. "Hmmm... I feel like something's missing in here..." Said Skye, staring into the pot. Adelyne groaned. "Well, it's probably moms 'secret ingredient' that she puts into there." Skye lowered the spoon back into the pot, and glared at Adelyne."Well, Adelyne, do you mind telling me this 'secret ingredient' that I've never heard about before?" Adelyne stood up from the table, and walked over to Skye and the pot. "Hmm... If I knew what the 'secret ingredient' was then it wouldn't be a secret, now would it?" Adelyne sneered at Skye. "What is up with you? You're acting like such a jerk!" Said Skye, hitting Adelyne's arm. Adelyne jumped back, and dramatically fell onto the floor. "Owwwe! Y-you hit me! I-I don't think I'm gonna live through this attack." Cried Adelyne, starting to make gasping sounds and grab at the air. Skye stood over her, with a unamused frown on her face. "Oh, get up! I didn't hit you that hard. Don't be so dramatic." Adelyne sighed loudly, and got up off of the kitchen floor. "Mom doesn't have a secret ingredient... She just makes food better than you." Said Adelyne starting to walk back towards the stew. "Well, it's either this or nothing." Said Skye. Adelyne lifted a spoonful of stew into her mouth, and turned to Skye. "It tastes pretty good, but you should add some more veggies or something..." Skye watched Adelyne as she walked over to the fridge and pulled out carrots and an onion. "Like these! These would be good in the stew." Adelyne brought them over to the cutting board, and pulled out a long, sharp knife. "Here, this will be a good knife to cut with." Adelyne handed the knife to Skye, and wandered out of the room, mumbling about unpacking her room before she left. Skye walked over to the cutting board with the knife, and decided to cut up the carrot first. As she chopped away at the carrot, the candles suddenly went out, along with a snicker. Skye stopped cutting, and angrily turned around. "Adelyne! You need to stop this little game you're playing! Its not funny, and I'm getting tired of it!" Yelled Skye towards the dinning area. No answer. "Adelyne!" Yelled Skye."ADELYNE! TURN ON THE DAMN LIGHT SWITCH RIGHT NOW!" Yelled Skye stomping in the darkness of the kitchen towards the dining room. A sound of footsteps ran out of the dinning room, and down the hall. "Ah- Hey! Don't you run away from me! Get back here right now!" Screamed Skye, running after the footsteps. The footsteps lead Skye down the darkened hall, and left her banging on a locked door. "Adelyne! Unlock this door right this minute! Don't make me call mom! Do you hear me?!" Screamed Skye inside the crack of the door. She stepped forward, and felt something sticky. It was candle wax-"Adelyne must've brought one of those candles."She thought. Skye put her ear on the door, and listened to the other side. The footsteps walked towards the far side of the room, and stopped. "What is she even doing in there?" Skye thought, as she lowered her eye to the key hole to peek in instead. There was a dark figure, standing with its back towards the door, staring at the wall. Skye sat there, staring at it for quite some time, until the figure unexpectedly turned around and started to run towards the door. Skye gasped, and jumped away, pressing herself against the hallway wall. She closed her eyes, expecting a loud bang of the door, but it never came. Skye gently opened her eyes, and slowed her breathing. "A-adelyne? Are y-you there?" She asked, slowly approaching the door. But before she could reach the handle, "CREEEEEEEKK" the door slowly opened before her. Skye shook as she crept toward the slowly opening door. She leaned up against the door frame, and peered into the big room. Nothing. Absolutely nothing. "Ehh? I could've sworn that...' Thought Skye. She wandered into the room, looking at the far wall where the figure was standing. She studied the peeling rose wallpaper, and looked at the small cracks along the wall. "Was I.... Imagining it?" Skye thought. Then, she froze. The hairs on the back of her neck stood up, and her skin layered in goose bumps. She didn't dare turn around all of the way, but out of the corner of her eye, she saw the dark figure staring at her from behind the door. It started to slowly close the creaky door, while Skye stood in shock of what was happening on the other side of the room. "Wh-who is this? This isn't Ade, I know that much!" Skye thought, as she Stood still frozen, listening to the creek of the door. "I-I have to get away! I have to-to get out of here!"She thought, starting to prepare herself to turn around. Footsteps. They were running down the hall. "Skye? Skye! Where are you at now? I thought you were making dimmer! Its boiling over!!!" It was Adelyne. "Here... I- I'm in here Adelyne..." Whispered Skye, hoping somehow she would hear her. "Skye? Skye?" Adelyne was getting closer to the room. "Adelyne! Please hurry! I'm in here!" Skye gently cried, watching the figure come more and more into her view. "Skye? Please come out!" "The door is almost shut! Adelyne is so close.... Please hurry Ade!!! Please!" Skye thought, pleading as the door lay only a few inches from closing. "Skye? Sk- Hey! Skye, are you in there?!? Skye???" Adelyne was right outside the door, watching it as it slowly shut. " Skye! I-is that you??? Don't try to shut me out!" Yelled Adelyne, slamming the door open. "Why are you shuting the door?! You should be coo-" Adelyne stopped in front of the door, and stared at Skye, who had burst into tears. Adelyne rushed over to her, grabbing her hand. "Skye?!? What's wrong? Why are you crying?" Skye looked at Adelyne, with eyes full of overflowing tears. "I-I just want to get out of this room." Whispered Skye, hugging Adelyne tightly in her arms. Adelyne nodded, and led her towards the hall. Skye looked back at the door, and saw that the door was now shut, and the missing candle was neatly set in front of the door, being the only light in the hallway.
