As I opened the door to the Principal's office, a sweet voice called out to me. "Melanie, Onyx, nice to see y'all again. Another fight?"
That was the receptionist, Louanna Johnson, my grandmother. With her long gray hair and bright red lipstick, it was obvious she was spunky. At 58, she already had five grandkids; Lani, Dez, me, Onyx, and Orion. Lani and Dez were twins (from my dad's sister) and we all knew each other well. She wasn't someone who dispised fighting either, she didn't care nor did she ever try to stop us. She was the cool grandma, and we all loved her.
"Yes,gramma, we're here again. This blockhead poured water all over me and he got what he deserved. All his other friends are gonna get it later too, all of them. Especially Onyx! I hate him..." "Alright Mel," she warned, " Don't get yourself in more trouble now. Just let Mr. Brown handle it." "Alright," I answered.
As Orion opened the door, I saw Mr.Brown's looming figure sitting behind the desk, frowning at us. He hates that we always come here. I smell another lecture ugh.
" THREE DAY SUSPENSION." I guess i was wrong.
"Three days?" Orion asked timidly. Mr. Brown was not one to play with. He was an old friend of dad's and he loved us, but he wouldn't let us off the hook because we knew him personally. He was just as harsh. "YES THREE DAYS! NOW GO BEFORE I CHANGE IT TO SIX!" He yelled. We quickly got up and scrambled out of his office. As I was closing the door, he said in a softer but still loud voice, "And tell your dad I said hello."
We called home and told dad our situation. He agreed to come pick us up. As we bid our goodbyes to grandma and promised to be safe, I bumped into a rock solid chest.
Now this chest wasn't just any chest. I didn't know who the kid was yet, but he sure smelled nice. I mean, he smelled HECKA GOOD. I was gettin a little excited because there's literally no good looking boys at school that i don't already count as FRIENDS. I looked up and said, "sorry" with somewhat of a laugh and he looked down and said, "no that's my bad." (KAMFAM YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS). His scent sure matched his face. I mean, this guy was FINE. He was lightskin with brown curly hair and bright green-brown eyes. And that smile, woo. He had the straightest and whitest teeth i've ever seen. He was perfect.
"My name's Kalin," he said. His voice was so silky and smooth! "My name's Melanie," I breathed. I was gettin lost in those eyes to be honest. It was like he was staring into my soul.
"UH I HATE TO BREAK UP THIS LOVE SCENE BUT WE'RE SUSPENDED REMEMBER, MEL?" Orion came busting through the office loud and obnoxious. I was about ready to punch him again for breaking us up, until Kalin said, "Sorry, I better get going too. Can I have your snapchat before you leave?" I couldn't believe my ears. The cute new kid wants my snapchat, that's brazy man. I gave it to him and walked out the door with Orion.
"Who was that guy?" he asked. "Oh no one, just a friend," I answered. He was definitely gonna be more than just a friend soon...
