It started out as a feeling, which then grew into a hope
King Caspian the Tenth stood staring out the window of his castle, thinking. The same thought had been on his mind for years now: Susan. When he had met her, he wasn't necessarily struck by her beauty - she wasn't quite how he expected her to look. As the days went on, though, he finally began to notice.
She had been so gentle - as her name suggested, he supposed - and so kind to everyone. She had given him this feeling every time their eyes met. Hope had consumed him then, and he willed for something, anything, to happen between them.
Susan Pevensie locked her bedroom door behind her and fled quickly to the window, a tear running down her cheek. Another failed relationship: her recently departed 'boyfriend' had been a brute, then left her for another. This was how it usually went for her.
Her memories of her last trip to Narnia came to her. Of course, the one time she was the one who had left. Caspian had given her a feeling and a hope for real love, something she hadn't felt since she had kissed him and left Narnia for good. She couldn't help but regret it.
Which then turned into a quiet thought, which then turned into a quiet word
Caspian had loved Susan. He had just come to terms with that and was going to tell her that afternoon - the afternoon on the day she left, his heart in tow. "I still love you," he whispered.
Susan thought of something else she'd been pushing away for years - she had truly loved Caspian. Their time together may have been short, but the chemistry was undeniable. A whisper left her lips: "I wish I had told you I loved you... maybe then I might have stayed." She realized how silly she sounded - she new she wouldn't have made it a month without her family.
Then that word grew louder and louder, 'til it was a battle cry
Caspian had returned to his castle with tears in his eyes that day. He refused to eat anything. Upon trying to go to sleep, more and more thoughts of Susan had filled his mind. He had got up and run to the window with tears streaming down his cheeks as he screamed:
"I love you!" Susan was crying on her bed now, shouting the words into her pillow so nobody could hear but herself. The pain in her heart was so strong now, it was nearly unbearable. If only there was a way for her to return...
I'll come back when you call me, no need to say goodbye
Caspian hung his head as he thought of the horn... if he called again, perhaps she'd return. "No...' he whispered. "You won't."
Susan pulled her head back from the pillow, now wet with tears. "There's no way..." she realized for the thousandth time. "I'm sorry."
Just because everything's changing, doesn't mean it's never been this way before
Caspian had been alone before Susan came along, but he had never had any desire to be with anyone romantically, anyway. Then she came along and changed that. She had changed everything again when she left. He'd spiralled into a sort of depression: he was still suffering.
Susan never considered herself beautiful - never thought anyone could love her. But the way Caspian made her feel... he changed her world and she was sure she'd changed his, too. She'd had crushes on other boys a couple of times, but since Caspian came along and changed her world, she realized she'd only 'fallen' for men who looked and sounded sort of like him. She was living in a delusion.
All you can do is try to know who your friends are as you head off to the war
The battle, Caspian thought. She had been so brave, so beautiful... They had been friends, that was for sure, but he wanted somethinf more. He hadn't even known the feelings were requited until she had kissed him.
