Within a few short paces I was out of the door, several heads turning in the staff area wondering what was going on. As I reached the exit I whipped my head back to catch a final glimpse of ed, my heart longing to go back but my mind telling me no. Taking in his face from a distance a look which I couldn’t quite make out looked like shock and the disbelief from bumping into him. Whilst I looked I noticed a bright light flash from where he was stood. Only then did I realised he had used his phone to snap a picture of me; just at the right time as I turned my head into full view, checks flushed a bright red and eyes wide with fear incase he decided to chase me. I flicked my head back and punched open the fire escape and pelted outside into a area full of lorries. Obviously this was where the shop got its music delivered too. I leaped the stairwell, thankful for my teenager years being stupid with friends , meaning I had learnt to land without breaking a bone successfully ; past attempts not being so lucky.
Winter was coming meaning the sunsets were becoming earlier and as I launched myself around two lorries the sky looked as if an artist had painted a rainbow of vibrant oranges and red. The irony of the colour orange I thought to myself. I continued to run until my lungs were heaving and had to take a break. I walked around the corner onto a quiet street. How I loved the city
London, every path you walked took you somewhere new. As I slowed down to a slow stroll, I rounded the tiny corner to bump into yet another person. Today was definitely not my day. The stocky figure reminded me of ed, but thankfully there was no ginger hair in sight.
“I’m so sorry” I began to apologise but he just cut me off.
“it’s alright love, no one was hurt” he had a broad smile on his face, which relaxed me even though he was a complete stranger.
He started to walk when he had a falter in his step, he reached into his protruding pocket and pulled out his vibrating phone to stare intently at the bright screen.
By this time I was already doing the same, texting Paige to head back to the flat and that I would meet her there later and that I was okay. I found a tiny cafe and stumbled in, in need of a tea and a cigarette which Paige wouldn’t find out about.
