Chapter 1:One

I woke up to my radio alarm blaring a song I've never heard before in my ear. I groaned as the light from my windows pierced my eyes. I sat up and clumsily, yet quickly found the button to silence the alarm.

I sighed in relief when the song went off and stretched out my stiff arms.

Today was the day after my last day of my sophomore year in Princeton. Being the first day of summer, I wanted to take off to join my friends at the beach, but today was not only the first day of summer, but also the first day of my job. Its a part-time job, I work 8 a.m to 11 a.m on Mondays, Wednesdays and occasionally, Thursdays at Starbucks. Today was a Wednesday.

After I had showered and changed I raced out the door with my shoes in hand, trying to tie my hair up in a bun. I hopped down the stairs of my apartment(this is where I stay when I'm on break) as I tugged my shoes on, I pulled the door open to the outside and smiled as the warm air rushed to meet me. As I walked down the side walk I let the loud city sounds fill my ears and I smiled as I looked down at the wet pavement. I loved living in the city, the rush of everything kept me on my toes. I reached the one thing I love more than the city. My Jeep. I ran my fingers across it as I opened the door and sat inside. Slinging my purse into the passenger seat I closed my door, buckled, and started the car. I pulled out and started on my way to work, quickly swerving to avoid a car that came out of no where and almost crashed into me. I checked my reflection and tucked a piece of loose hair behind my ears. I found a tube of lip gloss and some dried up mascara and at a stop light I tried to make myself look a bit more presentable. I could've sworn I saw the light turn green so I tossed my make-up into the console and slowly pressed down on the gas before realizing the light was not actually green...

Someone ,I guessed, I almost ran over as they were crossing the street, slapped their hand on the hood of my Jeep. I stuck my head out of my open roof and yelled a sincere apology. He accepted it and continued across the street.

"HAVE A NICE DAY!" I cried out to him as a sort of desperate way to apologize. He turned around and acknowledged what I had said and waved before walking away. I slid back into my seat, and let out a nervous laugh as the light actually turned green and I took off towards work.

I was quickly there and parked about a block away from work, the reason being there was no parking in front. I walked in through the back and clocked in before tying my apron around my waist.

"Hey, Mags! Good morning, ready for your first day?" Andrew called from behind the counter up front where his shift was about to end. Andrew was my ex. It's been about 4 months since I broke up with him but I don't think his feelings have exactly been erased since then. I walked up to him and gave him a half hug as I tugged on my name tag.

"It's about time I got off, I'm exhausted." Andrew teased.

"You think your exhausted, I was up all night trying to get a start on summer literature homework." I responded with a smile.

"Yeah. Well what's a Princeton girl doing in Starbucks?!" Andrew said poking my head.

"You ask me that basically every day since I told you I would be working here." I rolled my eyes.

"It shocks be every time babe." Andrew said blushing, waiting for a response to him calling me babe.

"See ya later Andrew, I've gotta get working." I lightly pushed him away after flashing a quick smile. He smiled back but as he walked off I could feel his stare boring into my back. I shrugged it off and asked what my customer wanted as they strode up. He was young, maybe 18 or 19. He looked vaguely familiar. He responded with an order and I wrote it down quickly and after tucking my pen behind my ear I read it back to him for confirmation.

"Oh wait, change it to two of those." He responded shaking his curly brown hair.

"Got it." I said smiling as I changed it. "and what name would you like on the cups?" I asked.

"Uhh Harry Styles." He responded with a cheeky smile. His name also sounded really familiar. "And what may your name be?" He asked me.

"Uh Madeline but every calls me Maggie or Mags" I said taken aback, why does he want my name? He turned his head around making sure no one was waiting behind him before he put his large hands on the counter. I handed off his order and raised a questioning eyebrow at him.

"Mags, you are the one who tried to run me over this morning!" he said with a chuckle.

So that's how he looked familiar!

"Oh my gosh! I am so so sorry about that. Your coffee is on me, it's the least I can do for almost running a guy over." I said with a tight smile.

"Thank You, and it's okay, I'm fine." He said with a twinkle in his green eyes. "You don't have to pay, but I do know something that will make up for it." He said slyly.

"And what that may be?" I asked, he was flirting with me and I just wasn't interested in him that way, so far, so I was wary of what he might say.

"You have to come out to eat with me and my friends. We're going to that restrauant across the street at 2 p.m." He said with a smirk as I took his coffees from a worker and slid them across the counter to him. I mumbled an "I dunno". He shrugged and took them.

"If you don't come then I'll be expecting some sort of thing to make up almost killing me." He said and leaned closer to me. He waited for my to respond but I didn't."So are you coming now?" He said softly, he was close enough I could smell his amazing cologne.

I leaned away and said "We'll see Harry." with a smirk on my lips. He put down a twenty on the counter and before walking out the door he chuckled.

I sighed in relief as he walked away, rolled my eyes and continued my shift.
