"What?" Jason asked. Ugh, boys.
"Did you not see what just happened?" Lori asked. He shrugged.
"Trin ran into the new kid, then walked back over here. I didn't realize you could fall in love with a dude you said all of two words to." He grumbled.
"Aw, is somebody a little jealous?" Lori said in a baby-voice and pinched his cheek. Jason swatted her hand away.
"Not jealous, just a guy." That phrase freaked me out a little bit. In my fantasies, I always knew it was him the moment I lay eyes on him. I never thought that he might not feel that.
"Wait, do you think he felt it too?" I asked. Lori nodded feverishly while Jason shrugged.
"Of course he did! How could he not?" She exclaimed.
"I don't know, I mean, he's a guy. We as a species tend to be pretty oblivious." He had a point. Lori slapped him.
"Shut up, of course he felt it too. It's love at first sight. Isn't a natural rule that you both feel it?" She... did not have a point. I dropped my head into my hands.
"Why am I even obsessing over this? I just met the guy! Ugh, this is like a bad romance novel with Fabio on the cover." Jason patted my shoulder.
"Trinity, chill out. Just get to know him. Maybe he did feel it too." A ring signaled the end of lunch. The three of us stood up.
"Thanks Jason." I shook his shoulder affectionately, and headed towards my next class, Science.
I took a random seat near the back and tried to scribble in answers on my worksheet before the teacher walked in. I had an essay due in my Literature class that I'd been working day and night on. There wasn't any time left over for anything else.
"Ok, what's the answer to number four...?" I mumbled to myself.
"I think it's C." A familiar voice answered. My eyes snapped up to see Travis standing next to me.
"Uh, thanks." I stuttered. He smiled, and my heart stopped.
"No problem. Is this seat taken?" He gestured towards the empty chair next to me.
"Um, no, go ahead." He grinned as thanks, and sat down. From here, I could see that he had a birthmark just below his jawline. A little brown mark shaped like an oval. It was so cute. Should I talk to him? Should I just stay silent? Oh crap, what now?
"You're Trinity right?" He asked, thank god. I nodded.
"Yeah... Travis?" Like I could forget his name. His smile grew wider when I said his name. Maybe Lori was right...
"Yeah." We talked a little bit more until class started. Then class started (sadly).
When the bell rang, I tried to get all my papers together really slowly so that I could have just a few more seconds...
"Trinity?" he asked. I looked up. He started messing with a bit of ripped paper sticking out of his notebook, "I was just thinking, I heard about the welcome back dance and I was wondering... if maybe, I don't know..." he started stuttering and mumbling.
"How about you pick me up at six?" I asked gently. He nodded, and blushed.
"Yeah, that sounds great." I took out my phone and handed it to him.
"Put your number in, I'll text you my address." I hoped he didn't notice the little shake in my hands,
"Cool, I guess I'll see you tomorrow." He said as he backed out of the room. I waved a little bit.
"See you." He smiled, and backed right into the door frame. I looked down and covered my mouth as he tried to brush it off.
Today while I walked the mile and a half home, I hummed under my breath. It was so quiet I hoped Jason couldn't hear, but he could.
"So, what's up with you and new kid?" He asked.
"His name is Travis." I felt a tingle up and down my spine when I said his name.
"Ok, so what's up?" I started stepping on my toes, it made me feel like I was floating.
"He asked me to the welcome back dance!" I giggled a little bit. Oh god I felt like such a... such a girl.
"Someone call the wedding planner." Jason muttered. I playfully punched his shoulder.
"Oh shut up. Hey, why don't you ask Ava?" I joked as we turned onto our street.
"That's just plain cruel." Jason said. Then all of sudden he leaned down, and scooped up a handful of light brown, dried out leaves.
"What're those?" He just held out his hand for me to stop.
"Watch," He threw them up in the air. They started spinning like helicopter blades as they neared the ground.
"Whoa, I haven't seen those in a while. Where'd you learn that?" I asked as I watched them fall around us.
"This girl I had a crush on in first grade, she taught me." He said.
"I used to play with these all the time, I guess I just forgot." I said, mesmerized by the last leaf falling to the concrete.
'Yeah, I guess you did." Jason said. I could have sworn he sounded a little down, but when I looked over at him, he was smiling as always.
