I woke up screaming. I pulled my glasses on and look at the clock. 3:45 am. My moms pushed into my room. "Was it about the crash again?" Kylie asked. Kylie was my favorite. She lost her Dad when she was younger. She understands. I can talk to her about anything. "It was..." I whispered. I was still trying to catch my breath. My breaths were heavy and my body was drenched in sweat. My mom AnneMarie looked at me with worry in her eyes and asked."Do you want us to stay up with you and watch a movie or something 'till you go back to sleep?" AnneMarie was stiff. She didn't deal with feelings very well. She worked as a FBI agent for 10 years. She had seen things. Bad things. I know she's trying her hardest. But, feelings aren't her strong point. "No. I'll just go eat something and go back to bed." I don't want Kylie or AnneMarie worrying. "Ok. We're only two doors down. Come get us if you need us." I knew by the way Kylie said that she understood that I needed my space right now. When they reluctantly left, I took out my phone and texted my friend Allah. I know she was at a party but, hopefully not drunk...Yet. I quickly texted her.
Mariana: Hey you said there was a party tonight?
After about 5 minutes she texted back.
Allah😘: Yeah I was just about to go. Wanna come? I'll come get you!
I had a decision to make. Go to this party and enjoy life. Or go back to my scary nightmares.
Mariana: Yeah! I'll be ready. Text me when you're here. Be very quiet when you come. I have to sneak out. I quietly got ready. I showered before bed so that was one less thing to do. I found the skimpiest dress I owned. If I was going out I was going to enjoy myself. I wasn't planning on drinking but, I was planning on having a little fun. I quietly went to check on my parents. The whole way down the hall I managed to step on every creaky floorboard. When I finally made it to their room they were both fast asleep. I quickly tip-toed back to my room. To continue in my daring escape. I unlatched my window stealthy. I felt a warm breeze blow through and I smiled. It felt right to rebel for once. My chance to take a walk on the crazy side of life. But, after that breezed ened. I knew. That's just how my night would go.I saw Allah's car pull up and I slowly maneuvered my way down the roof. Luckily our tree house was so close that I could easily climb onto it and go down a ladder. Allah's car was a classy blue mercedes. Her parents were divorced multiple times. And re-married to other people, then divorced again. So the divorce guilt was overwhelming. They bought her gifts constantly. They were buried in work so it was the best way to show their love. "Get your ass in, Faggot" Allah ordered. She had a way of downgrading people slowly and after awhile, you just get used to it. I didn't care that she called me a Faggot. I was openly bisexual and I know that if I told her it hurt me, she would stop. "Someone's bossy!" Is it that time of the month again?" I teased. She can throw jokes and take 'em pretty well. "For your information. If it was the case I would be home, Thank you very much" She retorted."Hm. Being home? Sounds like a pleasant change for you." "Ha. Ha. Very funny." She gave me a sour look and I took my seat. Atfer a few moments of only the light noise from the radio Allah spoke up. "So. What caused this sudden want for adventure?" She and I haven't had a real conversation since she started all her adventures."I just needed a break, I guess."I brushed it off.I didn't really want her to know about the nightmares although, I missed talking to her. I haven't really talked to many people other than my parents, the police and the constant annoying press. "Well, this won't be a total rager, but it should be good." She did a little half smile, put the car in gear and drove. It was a quiet ride. No one was on the road and we got to go through all the green lights. The sound of the light radio music filled the car and all the emotions flying around, deciding if we were still friends. If I could forgive her, I mean... She did sleep with Nate. Oh. Nate. I can't believe he's gone. I can't believe he won't be here. We had plans. A future to look forward to. I guess it wasn't as bright as I hoped. My mind rambled on and on foe what felt like like hours, from on crazy thought to another. Before I knew it. We were there and we were sitting parallel parked on the curb. ,"We're here. Are you sure..? That you want to do this?" Allah looked at me with the same concern as everyone did after the crash. "I'm ready." I said comfortingly. She nodded. She took the key out of the ignition and unlocked the doors. My adventure is about to begin. Whether it's a matter of life or death, might not be up to me.
