Note: I do not own Dan and Phil, they are real people who I have written a fanfiction about. This did not happen, etc. etc. Hope you enjoy!
Dan was in the lounge, browsing on tumblr in his typical browsing position. Phil had gone to pick up the pizza they had just ordered for dinner, and they planned to spend a relaxing evening watching Game of Thrones and taking their dog for a walk.
After months of Dan begging Phil, they had finally gotten a puppy. They had gone to a pet shelter and gotten a cute golden retriever named Katie. The little ball of fur was extremely cute, but had to be taken out at least three times a day or it would probably break something with all its stored up energy. It was nice to have in the house, though, and Dan was currently enjoying the dog warming up his feet by laying on them.
Dan heard the door open, and saw Phil walking up the stairs holding a box of pizza. Katie jumped up and ran over to Phil, frantically wagging her tail. Phil set down the pizza and scratched Katie's ears. "Do you like that, Katie?" Phil asked the dog, laughing.
The two boys got Game of Thrones set up and started watching, while enjoying some delicious pizza. Dan and Phil snuggled under a blanket together, and Katie sat on their laps.
After a few episodes, Katie got up and started whining, and Dan knew it was time for the nightly walk. It was almost dark as well, so they decided they should better take her sooner rather than later.
The boys put on their shoes and jackets, clipped on Katie's leash, and walked out of the door.
The crisp fall air was the perfect temperature for the season. It was not cold enough to need a heavy coat but the air bit at the boys' cheeks, turning them slightly rosy.
Dan and Phil started walking towards a park near their house, where there might be another dog for Katie to play with. They walked along the streets silently, enjoying the setting sun in a peaceful silence.
An thought popped into Dan's head.
"Hey Phil! We should get Dil a dog! Now that we have our own, he should have one too!""Yeah," Phil replied, laughing. "Hey Dan, do you want to hear a joke about dogs?"
"I don't know, do I, Phil?" Dan joked.
"This is the best joke ever, I promise."
"Alright, what is it?"
"What's the difference between a well dressed man and a well dressed dog?"
"I don't know, Phil. What is the difference?"
"The man wears a suit, the dog just pants!"
"That's the stupidest joke ever!" Dan said, bursting out in laughter at the stupidity of it. "I can't believe-"
"Dan, no!" Phil shouted! "Watch out!"
But Dan had not seen the car coming when he stepped out into the street. He had not seen the blazing headlights bearing down on him. But Phil had seen it all. He had seen the car, seen it collide with Dan's body, seen the blood. He had heard the crunch of his friend's bones snapping, heard the dull thunk as Dan's head hit the pavement. But Dan didn't see any of that, didn't hear the sounds. He didn't hear anything. All he saw was darkness.
Slowly, a white ceiling came into focus. The lights were blinding, and Dan could distantly hear the beeping of a heart monitor.
Dan blinked, trying to focus on what was around him. He saw a guy with dark hair. His first thoughts went to Phil. But as Dan looked at the face more, he realized that this person was not Phil. The man was older, and had dark brown hair, not black.
After a few moments, Dan realized the man looked a lot like an older version of him. He had the same brown eyes and hair, and the same nose.
Dan tried to sit up, but couldn't find the strength to do so, so he just flopped back onto the pillow. A woman's hand smoothed down his hair. A woman's hand he didn't recognize, but the wonder of whom obviously recognized him.
"Daniel, honey, we're so glad you're awake. Welcome back!"
"Who are you?" Dan asked. "What happened? How long have I been here?"
"Well, there was an accident. You've been in a coma."
"Who are you then?" Dan asked again.
"We're your parents," she said, indicating herself and the man.Dan remembered his parents, but he was sure they looked different. But he had a bigger worry.
"Is Phil here? Can I see him?"
The woman who was supposedly his mom looked sad. "Daniel, Phil...."
"Is he alright? Did he get hurt too?"
"Daniel, you've been in a coma since 2009. Phil never existed. It was all just a dream."
