*JAKE'S P.O.V*
Light.
That was the first thing I notice when I wake up, realizing Colleen wasn't beside me. The bathroom light was on, and I could hear the sounds of my wife puking.
Alarmed, I hop out of bed and quickly run to her side. Kneeling beside her, I rub her back with worry.
Colleen slowly sits back and reaches for some toilet paper when she finishes. She wipes her mouth while I flush the toilet, then pull her into my arms.
She relaxes into my chest, groaning, "Well, that sucked..."
"That's it. Tomorrow, I'm scheduling a doctor's appointment." I declare. Colleen starts to protest, but I hold up a finger to her pretty pink lips. "This has been going on for a week, babe. I want to find out what's going on." I explain.
With that, I scoop her into my arms and carry her back to bed. "I mean," I continue, "I might have a guess at what's going on, but I could be wrong... I just want to check."
I gently lay Colleen down and pull the covers over her. She mumbles rebelliously, "It's probably nothing, just something I ate..." However, a trace of excitement laces her voice.
I couldn't help but be excited as well. I know she really wants a baby, but I was wary of what might happen. Nightmares of miscarriages or worse shoot through my brain like bullets. I sigh and crawl into bed beside her. "Well, the doctor can clear it all up for us," I comfort her.
She snuggles into my chest, fitting perfectly against my body. I smile and wrap my arms around her. Kissing her hair, I slowly fell asleep, lulled by the rhythm of her breaths.

The next morning, a quick phone call to the doctor gets us an opening at noon. Colleen picks nervously at her breakfast, stirring her bowl of cinnamon Cheerios while bouncing her leg.
I look up from my plate of chocolate chip waffles and reach across our kitchen table, gently grabbing her hand. "Hey," I say, "Everything's gonna be fine. It's just a quick checkup."
She lets go of her spoon with a huff and brushes a thick strand of her blue hair out of her eyes. "I know, but..." She shivers a bit. "I hate hospitals, Jake. They stink of latex and bleach and cheap instant coffee."
I roll my eyes and let go of her hand, smirking. I had discovered early on that whenever Colleen got nervous, she got snarky. "Someone's in a glorious mood," I tease.
She pouts and pushes away her Cheerios, annoyed. "Hey, now," I scold, pushing the bowl back to her, "You need to eat, or else your mood will deteriorate. No offense, love, but you Hulk out when you're hungry."
Colleen turns away and playfully sticks her nose in the air.
I shrug. "Fine, then I guess I'll have to feed you."
Her eyes widen and she quickly turns back to the table, picking up her spoon and taking a bite of cereal. Her cheeks were a little pink, and I chuckle at her adorable embarrassment.
With that, I scarf down the last of my waffles, take my plate to the sink, then head upstairs to get dressed.
As I pull on a pair of ripped blue jeans, I hear a soft tep-tep-tep approach me from behind. I feel Colleen wrap her slim arms around my waist and press her face in between my shoulder blades.
I smile a little, running my fingers gently over the skin of her hand before taking it and lifting it to my lips to kiss it. "It's going to be all right, Princess," I murmur against her skin. Then I let go of her hand and turn so I was facing her.
She looks up at me, a small smile on her face. "Thanks, babe. But... Can you picture it? A baby?" Her smile grows and her cheeks flush.
I smile back and wrap my arms around her. "It would be amazing, I agree," I reply. "But what would Corey say?"
She blinks, surprised. Then her lovely face darkens with worry, and she ducks her head. "What would Dad say?" Colleen murmurs.
"Hey," I say, cupping her chin and tilting up her face to meet her eyes. "Let's cross that bridge when we get to it, hm?"
She nods. I lean down to kiss her, but before I meet her lips, I murmur, "Don't worry so much, my love. Everything will play out as it's supposed to."
She chuckles softly. "All right, fine... Now shut your pie-hole and kiss me." Colleen whispers before pressing her lips to mine. I chuckle softly under the kiss. Feeling playful, I gently squeeze her sides.
She breaks the kiss with a yelp before shooting me a glare and smacking my arm. "Asshat," she grumbles, pulling away.
I laugh and let her go. "Whatever, you still love me," I smirk.
"I'm supposed to, I'm married to you, aren't I?" Colleen retorts, slipping her shoes on.
I roll my eyes. "And I to you," I answer. Then I push my bottom lip out, faking a pout. "But unlike you, I'm actually happy about it."
She sticks her tongue out at me before grabbing her coat and tromping down the stairs. I copy her and follow her outside to the car.
