Thomas Bangalter sat at a dimly lit desk in his apartment. It was very late at night, and he was determined to overcome an unusually bad case of writer's block. He leaned back and let out an exasperated sigh. How was it that he, along with his brother Guy Man, had managed to create so much good music for such a long time and then suddenly burn out and not be able to think of anything? The duo had written one new song so far that sounded good, but that was it. He knew he needed to find inspiration somewhere, but at the moment, it was time to turn in for the night and recharge.
He organized all the items on the desk and went to his bedroom. There was a bed in the room, but it was really only there for show. He regained his energy from a port on the wall near the closet. He thought about what a curious coincidence it was that humans used the same energy to power things on Earth as they did on his home planet. He tried not to think of his home planet much; he had only bitter, terrifying memories of it. Thomas knew very little about life on that planet, but he did know that he and Guy were special in some shape or form. Thomas struggled to try and hold back the memory, but it came flooding in anyway.
He knew that the only residents on the planet were robots, except for a group of seven ancient creatures, who should have been long dead, but survived thanks to the machines they built that kept them alive. They shouldn't have been alive; they were too old for their own good. They were cruel and awful, and just the thought of them made Thomas' s circuitry burn. All except for one. There was one man, by the name of Giovanni Giorgio, that still contained kindness and love.
The first thing Thomas remembered was waking up in a lab beside a robot with a black and gold helmet, and an extremely old and frail man in a white lab coat. He sparked a bit and jerked his head up suddenly and looked around quickly. He noticed the robot beside him was looking between him and the man, but remaining silent. The man exhaled deeply and began to tear up. "My... my creations.. no.. my children.. Welcome to the world." He placed a hand on Thomas' s shoulder.
Thomas turned his head slightly. He began to make a faint humming noise. It grew a little bit louder as he began to fully wake up and take in his surroundings. The humming slowly turned into slurred words. "Wwwwwhere am I? Whoooo are you?" Thomas asked in a slightly paniced kind of sleepy electronic voice. The other robot turned to Thomas and looked at him for a second before looking down at the floor below him. "My children, you are in my lab. This is where your life begins. My name is Giovanni Giorgio, and you are my sons, Thomas Bangalter and Guy Manuel de Homem Christo." Thomas nodded. "Lllllife." He repeated slowly. Guy nodded slightly. Giovanni coughed and wheezed a bit and shed more tears. Guy looked at Giovanni and also began to speak, but a little more clearly than Thomas "Your... eyes." Giovanni nodded and wiped away his tears. "I am okay." He said, and gave a weak smile. Guy nodded. suddenly an alarm started to blare. Thomas looked around, frightened by the sudden sound. Guy immediately stood up, teetering a little bit on his legs. They were each about 3 and a half feet tall, and a bit lanky. Giovanni was shocked. He knew the elders would find him, but he didn't know it would be so soon. He had no choice but to put plan b into action. He heard the booming voice of an elder through the intercom of the lab. "Giovanni! We know you are in there! Come out with your hands up and we won't hurt you. What you are doing is illegal and punishable by death, but if you surrender now, we will let you live the rest of your sad meaningless "happy" life, in a mental asylum where you belong." Giovanni frowned. "I would rather die, thank you." He turned to the bots and took a box that had been on the ground. It had a small empty indention, as if it had at one time, held something. He removed the bottom to reveal a small button. He pressed the button and placed the box on the ground. It began to transform, quickly doubling, then quadrupling in size until it was a small rocket. He motioned for both of the robots to get into the rocket. "wwwwwhere..?" Thomas began. "There is no time, my son. He kissed the visor on Thomas' s helmet and sat him in the rocket. He knelt down beside Guy. "I am counting on you to protect your brother, Guy." Guy nodded "Yes... yes sir." Giovanni took a small gun from a table behind him and handed it to him. "You are much too young to use this or understand it, so do not attempt to unless you feel like you and your brother are in danger. If you pull this trigger, you can end a life. It would allow you to survive, but please only use it if it is necessary. " Guy took the object and nodded again. "I... understand." Giovanni kissed the top of Guy's helmet. "There is a recording that explains everything you need to know about your life and why you are here. It is in a special compartment in the rocket. When you are older, watch it, and you will know what to do." Guy nodded, and then drooped his head sadly. "You... are not... coming?" Giovanni shook his head. "I am sorry, but I can't go with you. I dont have much time left anyway." Guy looked up "Goodbye... Father." Guy's tone was noticeably sad. "Goodbye my sons. I love you both so very much. I only wish i could have had more time with you." said Giovanni, hugging them both and shutting the rocket's small door. He pressed a button and the rocket roared to life and blasted through the roof of the laboratory. Thomas watched out the window as the ground, and Giovanni dissappeared beneath him. He then turned to look at a monitor on the rocket's dash that was still locked on to Giovanni's position. The elder that was on the intercom approached him now and grabbed him, with his bony fist clenched around Giovanni's neck. "What was that rocket?!" He demanded. Giovanni gasped for air. "That.. That rocket is... Your downfall." The elder was enraged "You.. You didn't... You finished your research didn't you, you impudent little.." Giovanni laughed among coughs and struggles for air. "You... You can't.. do anything about it.. My precious sons... are well on their way to a location not even I know. There... they will... grow up... live a normal life..." His speech became slurred and in small bursts. "One day though... they will.. be back... and you won't... stand.. a.. chance.." Giovanni drew a final breath and collapsed in the elder's grasp. The elder threw Giovanni's body to the ground and let out a howl of anger. Another elder approached the scene and spoke to the first. "Jeron, brother, what is there to worry about? They are long gone." Jeron breathed heavily "We should have killed him while we had the chance." He said between clenched teeth. "I hope you are right, but in case they ever come back, we need to up security and military forces. I Ddon't know exactly what he did in there, but knowing him, something will happen if we sit back and let it." Thomas let out an electronic cry of anguish as he watched the scene unfold. Guy realized what he had seen, and quickly switched the monitor off and hugged his brother tightly as he continued to cry and squirm. Guy felt the same grief as Thomas, but he struggled to conceal it to be strong for his brother.
