Chapter Twenty-Seven . . . Pain and Lies
Tyler's POV
"The only record I can find of Miss Barkley, is that she's deceased." The police officer said as he looked through his notepad. I couldn't help but roll my eyes.
"That's impossible I just spoke to her three days ago. When did she die?" I asked and as I watched the officers face go from annoyed to confused I knew there was definitely something wrong. "What?"
"She died about a month or two ago. So unless you were talking to ghosts I don't think that was the real Miss Barkley you were talking to. I have a picture." He pulled out the picture from his notebook and I stared on it in disbelief. The woman in the picture was in her mid thirties, dark hair, and green eyes that were covered by her glasses. This was not the girl I was talking to.
"This is not Miss Barkley, this not the teacher who works in my school, she's actually the exact opposite from this woman."
"She's the only woman name Miss Barkley who is a teacher in this town. Well was." I scratched my head.
"I'm telling you that woman is not the same Miss Barkley." The officer stood up and took out the keys to his car.
"I'm gonna radio that station in. See if we can find anything. Sit tight." I held up my hands in surrender and gave him a smirk.
"Will do officer. Oh and take your time, it's not like anybody's life depends on it." With a grunt the officer went out the door with a loud slam as he shut. "Bastard." I mumbled under my breath. I suddenly, out of nowhere, felt a sting on the side of my head.
"Language Mister." I heard my mother scold before she came around and sat next to me. "You really think Kristine wants you swearing like this."
"If she knew what I was going through I think she would be fine with it." My mom shook her head.
"You and I both know that's a lie."
"Mom this is freaking ridiculous. The cops aren't helping and finding Kristine is pretty much impossible. Tell me what to do, please."
"This isn't the first time we've gone through this, remember."
"Oh trust me, I remember, and I also remember telling her that I would protect her and that nothing bad was going to happen to her again. But now not only she could be dead but my unborn child as well."
"Tyler honey I-" I cut her off even though her voice trembled and her eyes had as much tears in them as mine.
"Mom, please tell me what to do, please." I begged her and she quickly wrapped me into a hug.
"I'm so sorry honey. We're going to get through this." I heard the door open and quickly pulled away from her and wiped my tears away.
"Mr. Brolin the school sent me a picture of Miss Barkley, and I think you got to see this." He handed me the picture of Miss Barkley, the one that I talked to and saw.
"This is her." I said before turning to my mom. "Go get Sierra for me, please." Mom nodded and quickly walked out of the room.
"This is the woman you've been talking about the whole time?" I nodded and handed the picture back.
"This is not Sara Barkley. This is Bella Cassidy. Josh Cassidy's sister." My heart skipped a beat as I heard that, and handed the picture back.
"So Kristine was kidnapped by not one but two crazy idiots who also already murdered that poor woman."
"I'm afraid so, but I can assured you that we are on this Mr. Brolin." At that moment mom came in caring a yawning Sierra who was in her pajamas clearly ready for bed.
