The Palace

The Celestial Palace was amazing.

Seraph had landed before the gigantic structure, and immediately they were met by armed guards, whom Victor had assumed were spirits as well. Seraph explained who he was, and asked to see Celeste.

Walking side by side with Seraph down the marble halls of the palace, Victor couldn't help but feel overwhelmed by the architecture.

The palace, on the outside, was a very light pink and seemed to be made of some kind of shiny stone. On each side of the castle's main building, tall towers stood firm, each adorned with glimmering decoration and a small flag on the top. The entire castle was surrounded by lush flora, making it seem like the Celestial Palace was simply the centerpiece of a magnificent garden.

Victor had never visited a castle, but the interior of the Celestial Palace was exactly how he imagined one might look. The ceiling looked to be at least seventy feet tall, and marvelous chandeliers dazzled with hundreds of candles filled the blank space above them.

The floor was ridiculously clean, as Victor could see a perfect mirror image of himself in the marble slabs under his feet. It was amazing, but also very disorienting.

Various hallways and grand doors flanked he and Seraph's every side, but the spirits avoided everyone of them. It was clear that their path was going to stay straight.

"Seraph Harmony, your journey to the human world was only supposed to last one Earth day. What kept you?"

The guard that had spoken was a tall, imposing woman, her intimidating looks not threated by the fact that she wore an elegant ballgown. Around her chest, hands, elbows, knees, face, and shoulders were metal bracers, probably to protect the weak spots on her body. She carried a sharp spear, matching the other guard that was escorting them.

Seraph, now in human form, turned around to face her, still smiling. "Oh, I just ran into a few complications. It is nothing for you to be concerned about, Stella."

Victor squeezed Seraph's hand. "Nothing to be concerned about? Dude, you were kidnapped-"

"I am aware, Victor. But it is not necessary for Stella and Luna to know the details of my capture. That is information I am saving for my mother, okay?" Seraph flashed a gentle smile to Victor, who attempted to shyly smile back.

Luna, a broad-shouldered spirit wearing a much more revealing outfit, jabbed Victor in the back with the butt of her spear. "Seraph Harmony, may I ask whom you have brought with you? I need to know if he brings any threat to Mother."

Victor squeaked in shock, throwing himself around Seraph after the wooden pole touched his back. Fears of the guards not being welcome to humans filled his mind, and he started to question whether he should really be in the Celestial Realm at all.

Seraph, however, stayed his usual cheerful self. "Oh, this is my new best friend Victor! He is a human, but I had to bring him here because of an emergency. I have urgent news for Mother."

Stella blinked, her cyan hair falling across her face. "Seraph Harmony, you should have voiced that earlier! We must go to Lady Celeste, now." She spun her spear, and Victor was reminded of Umbra's practice sessions with his naginata and war scythe.

With graceful, fluid strokes, Stella sliced into the air, making glowing runes ignite in the blade's path. A portal ripped open before the group, a mystical wind generated by the ritual tossling Victor's hair.

He tightened his fingers around Seraph's arm, his stomach churning in fear. Victor wasn't sure his body could tolerate another teleportation and stay conscious, and he most certainly didn't want to faint in front of the guards. He didn't think he could handle that embarrassment.

At least I won't throw up again, Victor thought bitterly, for once relishing the empty feeling in his belly. He didn't want to be the one to dirty the pristine floors of the Celestial Palace with vomit.

Luna and Stella stood at each side of the portal, beckoning Seraph and Victor to enter it.

"I am very excited for you to meet my mother," Seraph said gleefully, taking Victor by the hand and swinging his arm back and forth. "She is very nice and cool."

And with that, Victor was once again dragged into the crackling vortex.
