Damien and Imani had managed to clear out most of the wolves from in front of the house and with Nicholai and Mateus' help there was no help for the rogue wolves that had joined forces with my misguided Uncle. I was sure he had reinforcements inside to stop us but we were more than prepared for that.
Set, Owen and I sprinted up to the front of the house when Mateus managed to clear the last wolf from our pathway. They had managed to push the remaining wolves closer to the forest and further away from the house.
"Shall we?" Set gestured to the door as we stood there in front of it.
"We shall..." I replied as I opened the door just a crack slowly. We had to be cautious at every turn once we took a step inside since there is no telling what we would find on the other side of that door. All seemed quiet as I looked inside and that worried me the most.
I pushed the door open fully and walked inside the house, quickly scanning the area to see if there was any traps set up that we could avoid. No such luck. I motioned for my mates to come inside when I was certain that it was as clear as possible.
"So where do we go from here?" Owen questioned as he stood besides Set.
"I'm going to shift just in case and I'll lead us through the house. If we find anyone we either take them out or if they're innocents just hiding we'll send them outside and warn our dads." I explained.
"So we'll just work our way through the house and go with the flow?" Set questioned.
"Yup! Pretty much." I shrugged my shoulders.
"Sounds good to me." Set smirked.
"Me too." Owen agreed.
"Owen just make sure you stay close to Set." I warned.
"I can take care of myself you know." He pouted.
"I know but that doesn't mean you should have to." I smiled. "Besides I would feel so much better knowing that my mates have each other while I take lead through the house."
"Fine." He relented. With a satisfying nod of the head I allowed Xerxes to take control, shifting immediately. It was better that he held the majority of the control right now as his instincts would be a greater asset than my guessing. He held his head high as he sniffed the air before heading left.
There was a faint smell that I knew to be my Uncle. I knew he wasn't dumb enough to just hide out in the house somewhere. There were clearly traps set up around here and there was probably a special hiding place in this house. As long as my mates and I were together I was sure we could get through whatever it was that we found ourselves facing.
"Anything strange?" Set questioned.
Xerxes shook his head before turning back around to sniff at another hallway. There were about five rooms down the hall and all seemed quiet. We were just about to move along when our heightened sense of hearing caught the sound of shuffling in one room.
I turned my large wolfy head to look back at my mates. Owen's eyes were as wide as saucers as he stared down the hall in curiosity. Set stared back at me and simply shrugged his shoulders. There was no way we could tell who was exactly in that room there were foreign scent all over this place.
"Shall we go check it out?" Owen asked.
'I think we better. Just in case.' I replied.
We headed down the hall carefully. My ears were tuned to listen for the shuffling once more in order to pick up on which room was the one with the shifters inside. Two doors down on the left I heard the shuffling again and we quickly made our way to that door. With a deep breath I tried to catch any suspicious scents but nothing was standing out to neither me nor Xerxes as being dangerous, so I allowed Set to pass by me to open the door.
