Priscilla

I have to say, this girl has spunk. And I would have admired her for it too, if Aaron hadn’t totally been checking her out. Something has got to be done, and fast! She and I walked to the table where the girls were sitting. I eyed her tray heaped with food and shuddered just thinking about the calories. The girls glanced at Leigh and gave me a questioning looks. I rolled my eyes.

“Girls, this is Leigh, my roommate”

Understanding dawned upon their faces. Suddenly, my blackberry started to vibrate.

What do you think of the new girl? It was Wendy. And yes we were sitting at the same table.

She’s such a slut. She’s only been here a few hours and she’s already flirting with Aaron and the gang. I replied. She raised her eyebrow then began grilling Leigh for information that could possibly be used against her.

I looked over to Leigh who was innocently eating, oblivious to the not so innocent intentions around her.

Leigh

Wow. This lasagna was AMAZING! Oh my god. And the chicken wasn’t bad either, not to mention the scrumptious mashed potatoes. Hmmm.. This place isn’t so bad after all. I looked over to the girls I was sharing the table with and saw that they had barely touched their measly meals. What’s up with that?

Priscilla introduced me to her friends. One was named Wendy. She had light brown hair and blue eyes. She was pretty small, standing at only 5’1” and like all the other girls in the group; she was super skinny and wore clothes that showed a little too much skin for my liking. The other two girls were both blonde with blue eyes. In fact, they were twins. The twins introduced themselves as Kylie and Laura.

Judging by all the envious looks people were giving them, I could definitely tell that they were the “in crowd” and seeing as how they were all pretty (and kind of slutty) I wasn’t surprised. Normally, I didn’t really hang out with this kind of crowd, but Priscilla was my roommate so I guess I didn’t really have much of a choice.

Speaking of Priscilla, she seemed pretty busy texting. Oh well, so much for making small talk with my new roommate. I could see her friend Wendy busy on her cellphone as well. They locked eyes for a second oblivious to the fact that I noticed their little exchange. I smell something fishy. Before I could wonder what they up to, Wendy turned to me and started asking me questions.

“So, what school did you come from?”

“Kently Academy”

“Why did you transfer?”

“It was really my parents’ decision”

“So, do you have a boyfriend?”

“Nope” what is this, 20 questions? I was starting to feel a tad bit uncomfortable. I mean, wouldn’t you? These girls were all looking at me so intently as if they were trying to find all my flaws. After about a hundred more questions (okay so I might be exaggerating a little), each one getting more personal than the previous, the bell finally rang. The canteen was emptied as the students scurried off to their next classes. I decided to go back to the room and finish unpacking.

My phone rang while i was in the middle of putting my clothes away. It was my friend Keith. I wonder why he’s calling at this time. Shouldn’t he be at class?

“Hey Keith! What’s up? We haven’t talked in forever!”

“Hey Leigh.. Not much I guess.”

“Hey, what’s wrong? You don’t seem like your usual self.”

“It’s nothing really, just.. well.. I don’t wanna talk about it.”

“Keith, you wouldn’t have called if you didn’t want to tell me about it. Besides, you know you can talk to me about anything.”

“Yeah okay. Well.. Sabrina and I broke up.”

"What?! Are you okay?"

"I've been better. I just don't know what to do anymore."

I gave him the best advice that I could and well, I guess that was the most help I could be right now.

“Just move on Keith, forget about her."

“I can’t.”

“What do you mean you can’t? It’s not that hard! She cheated on you! She’s not worth it.”

“You don’t understand okay? You wouldn’t know how it feels; you’ve never even had a guy.”

“Yeah and for good reason! Being in a relationship just complicates everything. What’s wrong with good old friendship?”

“You’re gonna die an old maid Leigh, you know that? Tell me when you finally get a boyfriend okay? I want to be the first to congratulate him.”

We talked for hours, well—he talked for hours while I listened to him rant about how sucky it is and how he should consider priesthood because he’s tired of being hurt. This was so frustrating, the whole not being able to be there for your friends. Stupid boarding school.
