Whimpers and weeps filled the room. The energy was drained as expected. Sad music arose from the fresh instruments as the coffin of Irene Vianelli was rolled into the room. Donny took lots of deep breathes. He didn't want to cry now, he told himself there are other times to cry rather than in front of others. The people who attended were few. An old coworker of Irene's, Her cousin, and her cousin's friend. The priest began with an opening speech that he had probably used for every furreal. Through all of the tears Donny saw something standing behind the priest. It was a tiny orb. It began to move closer to Donny too. The orb was no longer an orb, but a fairy. It was Angelina! Donny sniffled up his sadness and whispered to her.
"Are you the fairy my mother talks about?"
"Yes. My name is Angelina, if she hasn't told you that" she replied.
Donny wondered if anyone else could see her. He looked around, but all he saw were the three people weeping, and looking down at their snotty tissues. He told the fairy to leave, she wasn't wanted by him.
"I won't stay with you if you don't want me to, but I'm sure you will after I tell you this" Angelina shouted in a whisper.
Donny made a "Pff, okay whatever" motion to her before Angelina began to speak.
"Whether you will believe me or not, I'm going to proceed to speak anyway. I am Louis Vianelli, your father. This is me. I am unsure whether a fairy is what I have reincarnated into, or this is the transitioning stage before I reincarnate and this is my chance to connect with the living. Either way, I am here and this is what's going on. You did read my letter, is that correct?"
"Um, yes. I have read it." Donny replied, soaking this all in. He wasn't a big believer in all of this but he remembers his dad always was. At this point, Donny feels like it really could be Louis as a fairy.
"Good. Well, I'm glad you're somewhat updated. By the way, I just want to tell you that things will be alright. In all honesty, Irene would have suffered very badly too even if she didn't get put in Heritage Oaks. So please don't blame her death on yourself. Plus she is very old. Things like this had to happen eventually." Louis/Angelina cleared their throat.
Louis began to speak again. "I have something for you. When this service is over meet me in the third section of the parking lot.".
Donny was very curious now, and not as sad as before. What was different now was he had hope. Hope for his life now, and the future. He sat and participated in the funeral service, giving a speech at the end. This was easier now with the talk from his dad because he didn't want to cry up there, and now he had more strength to hold back the tears. It was a lovely speech, he prepared it the last few days. When he finished saying "thank you" to all the "I'm so sorry"'s after driving to the graveyard with everyone where Irene was going to be buried, he bolted to his car and drove back to the funeral home where Louis told him to meet in the parking lot. He parked in the third section just like his father had said but didn't see him, or anything, anywhere. Donny waited a few minutes, losing his hope. Suddenly he saw the tiny orb and a smirk grew on his face. He looked down and didn't want to show his smile yet.
Walking next to Louis was a girl. She had shiny, dainty red hair and pale skin. Freckled sat on her cheeks, which were gradually turning pink the closer she got to Donny's car. She was wearing a tan shirt tucked into a black shirt that flared out by her waist. Her shoes were expensive looking ankle boots, with strings of fringe on the outsides. Her age was around late twenties, so it was close to Donny's. She took one of her frail hands and tucked a chunk of hair behind her ear just before approaching him.
"This is Scarlet." Louis said excitingly.
"Hi, it's nice to meet you" she mumbled nervously.
"I wanted to bring another girl into your life Donny. She is smart, likes to cook, and is single. I thought she would be a perfect match for you" Louis said proudly.
Donny put his head down into his hands and pushed his hair up, so his hands were almost on the back of his neck and he was faced towards his stomach.
"Dad, I'm a 30 year old grown man. I don't need you to find me girls. Thank you anyways though, she is beautiful. Any guy would be lucky to have her. I just don't want to be with anyone right now because of mother and I thought you could understand that." he told Louis.
"No. You need to get a move on with your life. C'mon, you said it yourself. You're 30! You're single and unemployed. Not good man. Look, Scarlet is standing right here. An opportunity is literally right in front of you. Please take it." said Louis. Before Donny could say anything else to his dad, his dad had disappeared.
"Stupid fairy magic" Donny told.
"I know right.". Scarlet rolled her eyes.
"So you're familiar with all that?" Donny chuckled.
"Yes, it's actually quite a story to tell" she laughed.
"Well how about you tell me over some coffee?" he offered.
"Okay" Scarlet said, then smiled.
