The night of Christmas Eve, sleigh bells echo softly in the night.
Children rest peacefully in their beds, tummy's full with Christmas Pudding. Smiles are etched onto their faces, for in their dreams they are in another place.
Eggnog sloshes over the edges of the mugs as the adults bid their farewells. Fairy lights twinkle gently over their heads, like the stars in the sky.
The sleigh bells begin to grow louder, and a "Ho, ho, ho," rings out into the night. Hooves hit the roof, and the sleigh pulls to a stop.
Down the chimney Santa goes, delivering presents and drinking the milk left out for him.
A dog barking stops in his tracks. Bang. Santa drops to the floor with a thud.
And when the children wake from their safe dreamland and return to the harsh reality that is the real world, it is Christmas morning.
But Santa has left no presents.
Tears threaten to spill over their eyes, and their lips tremble. "Where's Santa?"
Santa's dead.
