Chapter 1: Alex's POV

Today is the first day of college, at an Art/Beauty school in Oregon. Students my age scattered around my campus, eager to meet roommates and decorate their rooms. Groups of students were assigned an off-campus house due to the overwhelming amount of students in the dorms, and I'm one of them. The campus owns a neighborhood nearby, and I have a car so it's not going to be a problem. The only problem is, I'm afraid of meeting my roommates.

Everyone is afraid of meeting their roommates, but I'm not like other girls. I mean, I have piercings, tattoos, and pastel/grey hair, and most girls have Chanel purses and pink things. All I know is that I'm sharing the house with one other girl and two guys.

I sit in my car in the driveway with my black cat, Luna, and hesitate to go in. I pat her head softly. "Come on, Luna. Let's go meet some people."

I twist the keys through the lock and walk in. A pretty girl with icy blue eyes, dark hair and tattoos sits on one couch, and a super hot guy with somewhat dark hair and a cute guy with dark hair sit together on the other.

The girl smiles at me. "Hey, I guess you're Alex. I'm Dani."

"I'm Brendan. Cute hair," The hot guy says, and I feel my face redden.

"I'm Kaz. Cute cat," The other guy says.

I flash a peace sign, then pet Luna down her back. "This is Luna."

"Is she good with dogs? I have a Rottweiler named Aero," Dani asks me.

"She's fine with them. Is your dog good with cats?" I ask, setting her down.

Dani nods and calls, "Aero! Here boy!"

The dog runs in, puts his front paws up on my stomach, and pants while his tail wags. I love all animals, and this one is just the sweetest, yet most terrifying thing I've ever seen.

I pet him and then he goes to Luna. They sniff each other for a bit, then I look back at Dani. "He's so cute!"

Dani laughs. "Thanks, that's not what most people -especially girls- think at first, though."

I raise my eyebrows. "Do I look like most girls to you?" I'm wearing a black sweater and ripped jeans, with a purple beanie, a choker, and my septum piercing.

"Better than most girls," Brendan says, and I bite my lip.

"You're not too bad yourself," I say.

"Sassy!" Kaz comes over to me and pats me on the head. "And short."

Dani stands next to me, only a few inches shorter. "We're not short, you guys are just giants."

I laugh. Looks like my roommates aren't bad at all.

Kaz goes to the fridge. "Beer for anyone?" 

"Hell yeah," I say as he tosses me one. "But we're only 18, how'd you get those?"

"We all have our ways," Dani says, and I silently agree.

And for the rest of the night, we talk, laugh, and drink.
