Luke's POV

I could feel her watching me until I turned around a corner. I couldn’t believe that she had spoken to me like that. No one ever does. Most people were scared of me. It wasn’t the best way to be seen by people, but it did get me what I wanted, and that was good enough.

I slowed my pace to a steady walk as I headed for Law class. Why did Lyndsey even want to help me? I had never been nice to her, never given her a reason to want to help me. Maybe she wasn’t like everyone else. Everyone who had let me down or left me. I huffed in disbelief. I couldn’t believe these thoughts were even going through my head. I didn’t need her help. I never needed anyone’s help. Whenever I had asked for help, I had always been let down.

I pulled my backpack around and pulled out the piece of paper with her address on it. I read over the words a few times before I just ended up staring at them. Sighing, I shoved the paper into my pocket. I didn’t have to go. I didn’t even want to go. So why was I considering it?

Lyndsey’s POV

I walked home slowly today, taking my time and not worrying about anything. For some reason, I had a feeling that I wouldn’t be seeing the silver Porsche today. They hadn’t bothered me much all day and I didn’t think that that would change now.

I was glad to realize that I was right when I made it home unscathed and not teary eyed. I went up to my room and threw my book bag into a corner and changed into a pair of grey sweatpants then went back downstairs to curl up on the couch and watch TV with Romeo.

Whilst watching TV, there was a small knock at the front door. With a frown, I got up off of the couch and went to the door. I stood up on my tiptoes to look through the peephole and almost gasped at what I saw. Opening the door, I looked into a pair of chocolate brown eyes.

I just stood there with the door wide open, my eyes wide and my mouth slightly ajar, and stared at him. I didn’t know what to say. I was completely flabbergasted that he had come.

Luke sighed impatiently. “Are you just going to stand there and stare at me or let me in?”

I snapped out of my haze and blinked a few times. “Oh, yeah, sure, come on in.” I stepped aside so that he could walk passed me and enter the house.

I closed the door behind him as he stood awkwardly in the entry way.

“You can take your shoes off and sit down,” I said, smiling slightly.

He glanced at me for a second before kicking off his vans and sitting down on the couch, still looking completely out of place and uncomfortable.

“I’ll just go grab my Biology stuff and then we can get to work,” I muttered as I headed up the stairs to my room.

I was still in shock as I entered my room and pulled my Biology books from my bag along with my pencil case.

He came. He was actually here. Luke wanted my help. The thoughts kept running through my mind over and over again. This was unbelievable. One of the hot-shot, cool, popular, bad boys needed my help in Biology. Absolutely mind boggling.

As I was coming down the stairs, I heard a noise coming from the living room. It was low and barely audible, but it sounded like… laughing? I stopped and strained my ears. I could hear the voices from the TV, but, beneath that, I could plainly hear laughter. I smiled. Luke was laughing. That was a sound that I had only heard when I was being bullied by his posse, and then it was a cruel, vicious laugh that hurt. Now, his laughter sounded fun and happy; like it should.

I continued down the stairs, and, as I came into view, Luke stopped laughing immediately.

I frowned and sighed, shaking my head. “You are strange.”
