Chapter 1:

~Cody~

After classes, I sneak up to the roof of one of the school buildings. I don't lock the door cause I don't think I'll need to, but I do hope no one saw me come up here. Standing in the middle of the roof I spread my arms, close my eyes, and tilt my head to the sky. Then I start using my element, slow and steady at first but gradually increasing to a cold, harsh gale whipping around me. Not large enough to affect the school of the building just a large enough windstorm to surround me in wind, wind that even at this strength I find very relaxing.

Suddenly a voice comes from behind me, startling, "Hey, what are you doing here?"

I turn to see Jase.

"Um, just practicing. It relaxes me and stuff." I reply.

"Ahh... I see. Yeah I get it. Air and water are just so relaxing. Sometimes I just sit in my room and practice the simple moves when I am frustrated, it just gives you a sense of relief." I say. After a long silence, "Hey uh I better be off to class! See ya later!"

~Tori~

I sigh as I walk out of my last class. I have detention right before elemental class but before that I have some free time. I decide that I should go bother Emily. I see her walking down the halls and wave to her.

"Hey, Tori!" Emily says happily as I wave to her, "Been a while since we've talked, or so it seems. I haven't seen Cody around a whole lot though, I wonder what's become of him."

"I'm not sure. I saw him this morning as we both had an interesting experience in class this morning, but I am not sure where he went after that." I say, starting to breathe more air out of my nose as I silently chuckle, thinking about this morning's event.

"I'm guessing something big happened between the two of you but I'm not even going to ask." Emily says shaking her head, "I probably don't even want to know anyway."

"No you probably do not want to know." I anwser with a smile.

Emily shakes her head disapprovingly. "Well, whatever you to are doing to each other make sure to leave me out of it!" she says seriously, then on a more relaxed and casual note, "So I'm going to element class today, you can take every Tuesday and Thursday in place of Gym, want to come with me?"

"Sure!" I say, suddenly noticing that I have not yet even used my element. "Because I think hat the school offers additional classes every school day, but in order to attend you also have to sit through the boring old Nightschool classes. Anyways I have to go back to classes. See ya later!" I say, waving to her.

"See ya, Tori!" Emily says cheerily.

I smile as I walk in the direction of my next class, speeding up to a jolly energetic walk. I set my books down in a neat stack and sit at my desk. I have to go to detention for rubbing Cody's face with my foot. I wonder of anybody else will be there?

~Darin~

I start to walk faster towards Selena, starting to prance forward, which makes her give me a light laugh "Hello innocent." I say to her, and produce an item from my pocket. She scans it for a label. When she finds none, she opens it to find strawberry-lemon candy. "You know, I have heard of boys giving chocolates to their lovers, but never this." She says, smiling at the gift. "Well then maybe we are just different from the rest." I say to her, taking her face in my hands and kissing her forehead. She starts to giggle. A silly, careless laugh. "Come on! Lets go to class!" She says, and takes me by the hand.

"You always use our free time together to think about work!" I complain, but it is no use. She is already focusing on what she wants.

~Selena~

"Well how else would you gain discipline and knowledge?" I ask intrudingly, pointing at him, and turning my attention back to the scene in front of me. Never should have turned around, I think as somebody crashes into me and makes me tumble to the floor. I see Darin giving me a ridiculous expression, which soon changes to a smile as he begins to laugh at me. "

Whatever." I say defensively and stand up again. Soon I spot a familiar face among the students, Tori is talking to another girl. I wave to her and she waves back, saying a farewell to her friend and walking towards her next class. Darin and I soon arrive to our classroom, and I drop my books onto the desk in an ungraceful heap, taking a seat in the chair behind them.

I suddenly feel Darin poke me in the ribs.

"Oh shush and do your homework." I say, pointing my strawberry-scented pencil at Darin, inching it closer and closer to his face.

"But this is much more fun." He shoots back. I punch him in the side and go back to my studying. As a half hour passes and I am walking out of my classroom, I am beginning to feel confident about my educational intellect, and am sure that I will earn outstanding grades. Everything can be perfect,..... except for Darin, he is a problem. I grin as he comes up behind me while I am putting my books away.

"So, are you going to elemental practice later today?" I ask him.

"Oooh, maybe. I heard Tori and a friend of hers have detention tonight." He says, shrugging his shoulders. "Hmm." I muse, and turn into the direction of my next class.

~Toby~

I watch the nurse as she examines Iris, and slowly her focus turns to me.

"Toby, why don't you go and resume your classes?" She suggests.

"Is she going to be okay?" I ask, turning to Iris.

"Oh yes, she will be fine. She is in good care now, so do not worry about her.

"Okay." I somewhat mumble and walk out, turning again to see Iris laying on the hospital bed, her expression blank and wandering. I inhale deeply and exhale deeply, turning in the direction of the principal's office. If only the nurse knew that I would be stuck in detention and as a result banned from elemental education. I walk in and quietly take a seat.

I tap my mechanical pencil against my desktop, the metal making a good-sounding ring. That is until another students yells at me and complains to the teacher, and then I am stuck having to cat like a civil human being.

~Iris~

Toby walks gracefully out of the room, and I am left with the school nurse and an aching stomach. I have to attend detention tonight, as if it were a night-class, and catch up on the classes I have missed, as well as be punished for all the damage I have caused.

The nurse gives me some medication that should stop the aching stomach, and some other medication to take whenever I am feeling stressed or angry, and it should stop the elemental outbreak.

She sends me off when I feel somewhat better, and I walk to my dorm quietly. I put the medication away and look at my timetable. Still one more class for the day, I might as well attend it.

When I walk back outside, I notice my books are placed in a neat pile by the door. I pick them up, look around, then walk to my last class. Let's pretend nothing happened, I think to myself, just move on.

The class shortly finishes, and I have two hours until detention.

I walk to my dorm quietly, keeping my eyes on the floor in front of me and making myself unnoticeable. I slip into my dorm and put my books away, then have a quick shower and get changed. I get changed into a pair of black jeans and a baggy yellow top, and slip on my black converse. I dry my hair quickly and tie it up in a messy pony-tail, then walk outside.

I see Tori walking outside her class and head over to her. "Hey," I say quietly, giving her a small smile and a wave.

"Hi," she says quietly as I pull my long sleeves over my hands.

I look up at the clock that is above the classroom door and decide to go find Toby, since he will be attending most of detention with me. "I gotta go. I'll see you around!" I say, and walk off.

I slip outside and notice a cool breeze from the roof above me.
