Chapter 4:
~Taylor~
I drum my fingers nervously, sending ripples through the water bottle I have sitting beside me.
"Your natural element is Water." The instructor pauses as he looks at the water bottle. "That is the element that you were born with, however it is possible for you to react better with a different element. Though I am surprised that you find this class so confusing, and that you have never even discovered or used your natural element before." he says to me.
"I was never told." I pause. "I don't even know if the parents I have now are my real ones. People say my mum was a witch." I feel the eyes of the class as they bore into me. I felt sort of embaressed. A freak. But I don't care. I was who I was. No one could change it. You can pick your friends but not your family.
"Why don't you come up here and try out your element? I have some targets that I would like all of the students to eventually practice on." the teacher says to me. "By the way, what is your name? You seem new here."
"Taylor Blue Guupod. I am new to the school so yeah." I get up from my seat and walk over to the targets. "Uh how do I turn my power on?" I ask.
"Unlock the water from within." The teacher says vaguely. Fat lot of help you are.
"I got it." I say though I don't. I steadily point my hands at a water fountain, it turned on instantly. I felt adrenaline rush through me. Water sprayed everywhere, I felt like I was grabbing water. I moved my hands over to the targets and the water followed. I pushed my arms forward and let go. The water smashed to the targets smashing it to pieces. I felt like all my strength was gone and sat down on my seat.
"Well done." said the instructor. "Now, normally I would ask if you felt that the force of your natural element was cooperating well or agreeing soundly with your natural personality, but it would be too hard to determine, as you just applied all of your energy force to your unpracticed element in order to make it strong enough to knock down the target, which does not necessarily mean that water is the correct element for you, just that you favor to place all of your power into defeating something, which is often the result. That is one important method that you will practice and perfect in using elements, learning to preserve and cleverly spread your energy." The teacher says, addressing all of the students.
~Selena~
I listen to the instructor as he explains the properties of natural elements.
"Are there any other elements that can be acquired with skill, such as healing?" I ask,
"Besides Metal, no other special element has been discovered or acquired after mastering the natural elements. However, that does not mean that new elements are impossible to find. In fact, this class right here could be the first." He replies to me, turning back to the white-board.
"Excuse me." I raise my hand again as he turns towards me again.
"I would like to practice on one of the targets." I say honestly.
"Sure. Tomorrow all of you will practice on the targets." He adds. I stand up and approach one of the targets. Similar to the previous girl who came up, I also have the natural element of Water. I have not practiced, so I expect my element will not be too strong. I turn to the fountain and extract some water, I split it into a few sections and surround the target, pausing to focus, trying to charge my strike. Then suddenly I launch the target forward and stop as soon as it hits the wall.
"Well not too bad. Except you are charging just a bit too much energy into your first attack." the teacher says to me. I nod and walk back to my seat, smiling at Darin before I sit down.
