Chapter 1 - The Lonely

Chapter 1:
The Lonely

Derek Taylor was never a normal kid. He had never been able to stand up for himself. There was a time where he was shorter than more than half of the kids in second grade. This made him an easy target for bullies, and even though he had a growth spurt, people never stopped teasing him after that.

He also had no friends. There was one kid, however, who had been friends with Derek since the second grade. His name was Eric Lee. Seeing Derek being pushed around all the time made Eric feel sympathy towards this helpless student. So he took Derek under his wing. The two had been best friends ever since. Yet, Derek felt he still had no friends.

Lastly, his mother was ill. She had been this way for six months. The doctor said that she was dying, and Derek didn't want to believe it. It was just to much for him to take in. He couldn't lose his mother... he just couldn't. Eric's grandmother had passed away six years before, and Eric had asked Derek what he could do to get over it. All Derek could say was,
"I don't know."
He didn't want to know.

Over the years, Derek had learned that if he wanted something to happen, he had to do it himself. The only problem was, he didn't know how. He needed someone to help him find out how. That was what held him back in life. How could he move on in life when he hadn't a clue about what he should do?

Sooner or later, he would know. When he did, it would change his life forever.
