Blazekit blinked open her eyes and yawned. Her nap had calmed her down a bit after what had happened and she sighed. She looked out the shredded bramble entrance of the nursery and thought to herself, wow.... this place is really demolished. I wonder why they don't repair it. The brown tabby she-cat looked over and her sister Songkit. Her green eyes looked like they had a white layer on them, making them look faded.
"Hi, Songkit! What are you doing?" The white she-cat looked at her and smiled.
"I'm just trying to fix the den a little with some of the bracken from my side of the nest. I... I just noticed how the den looked worn out and I wanted to make a contribution." She said. Her fluffy white tail went in between her legs as she waited for Blazekit's response. Blazekit knew how shy Songkit was, and how self-conscience she was. The brown tabby kit nodded her head and the white kit let out a sigh. Songkit continued working on the wall as Blazekit padded towards her nest. Her mother was sprawled across the sticks and twigs that made her nest. Blazekit pawed at mothers belly and Fallenleaf looked at her.
"Is something wrong, my sweet?" She said.
"Nothing is wrong. I just want to ask you a question."
"Well, go ahead." Fallenleaf sat up and curled her tail around Blazekit, making her move closer. She purred with comfort and continued.
"I can't remember that much of what made me pass out, but I do remember one thing. This cat ran into camp with the two Guards chasing him. He ran up to me and told me something, but I can only remember a couple things. One thing he said stuck out though." Blazekit paused and looked at her mother. She looked slightly panicked like she was about to witness a death. But Blazekit shook her head and finished what she was saying.
"He... he said 'run,' momma. Why did he say 'run?'" Blazekit looked back up at her mother and saw her staring out at the camp, seemingly lost in thought. She twitch her tiny tail against her mother's belly to get her attention. Fallenleaf shook her head and looked back at Blazekit.
"My kit, we live in a bit of a constant war-world, meaning we can't stop the fighting. I think he told you that because he doesn't want you to see everything this world has." Fallenleaf explained. Blazekit's eyes drooped and she looked down in shock and disappointment. She felt her mother shelter her with her body and the kit closed her eyes.
"Oh, I'm sorry, Blazekit. I know I shouldn't have told until you were six moons old!" Fallenleaf scolded herself. Blazekit felt a spark of irritation at the mention of her age in coordination with toughness.
"I'm almost six moons! It's actually only a matter of days!" Blazekit retorted. Her mother looked at her in surprise but her expression recoiled.
"I didn't mean to offend you. I simply meant that many things happen in our world that are not for kits. And even though you will be an apprentice soon and have your own trainer, you are still my kit and you always will be to me!" Fallenleaf's fur bristled and Blazekit only grew more hesitant to obey her mother's wishes. The small kit held her ground as her mother padded out of the nursery. She gave off a small growl and walked back to Songkit, who Blazekit could tell even though she's blind, she saw exactly what happened.
"A-Are you ok? You just got into big trouble mama." Songkit mewled. Blazekit loved this about her sister. No matter how useless or weak she may end up being, she has innocence and purity on her side. Unlike some cats... Blazekit shook her head to clear her wandering thoughts and smiled to try to erase the awkward silence she had created.
"Ya... I'm fine. I just wish she would stop treating us like we're kits who were just born." She said with a grunt. Songkit looked at her and tipped her head in what seemed like confusion.
"But, aren't you glad that she treats you like that. I mean, ya she treats like we're younger than we are. Well, she treats you guys like your younger, but aren't you happy that she cares so deeply for you? Many cats who have kits don't care for them and will often leave them to fend for themselves, especially in our society." The white kit said with wisdom. But Blazekit didn't understand.
"Then why did she be so mean to me?" The tabby kit said. Songkit shook her head in sadness.
"Blazekit, if she didn't care so much of losing you to the world, she wouldn't have gotten so mad. If she didn't care for you, she would have just let you go into the world, unknowing and unprepared." Blazekit looked at her slightly scared. Kits should not be this way. They should not know such wise things like Songkit was speaking of. She nodded and scampered away from her, scared she might somehow do something that only wise cats can do. Blazekit jumped into her bracken nest and curled herself into a ball to keep warm. It was sunset and the moon was already shining in its dark environment. Fallenleaf still wasn't back and Blazekit was shivering white the wind stirring her bristle- like fur. She shut her eyes closed and tried to think of happy moments to consume her thoughts and help her drift off to sleep. But all her mind could seem to conjure up was the tom warning her and telling her to leave her home. But how could she do that? How would she do that? Why would she even want to leave? Her family was there to help and take care of her. How would she ever take care of herself or just simply be alone all those moons? I'll never know since I'm never going to leave. This is my home. Blazekit slowly drifted into a thoughtless sleep as the sounds of war continued to rage on through the night.
