LINDSEY EVANS

Never work retail around Christmas time.

People are grumpy and tense, trying to finish the last of their Christmas shopping.
Which means they take their anger out on you.
And then you get grumpy and tense.
And then you get fired.

But I guess I'm jumping the gun here.

I'm not quite to the being fired stage but boy I've dived deep into the grumpy stage.

"I'm sorry miss, but we are out of this particular style at the moment. We have ordered more stock in, but chances are they won't arrive until after Christmas." I say politely, trying to maintain my calm.

"Well what's the use of that hey? No one is going to buy this after Christmas. Which idiot ordered stock in so late?"
The lady exclaims in anger.

"I'm sorry miss. There's nothing I can do."

"Yeah, yeah. Of course there isn't. Useless girl." She throws the shirt at me before exiting. I sigh and fix the shirt on the hangar.

Remain calm Lindsey. Don't lose your job. You need it to save up for your car.

I walk back to the desk and stand behind it, drumming my fingers against it.

I watch people walk past the store, most are middle-aged parents. I can tell they're parents because they are dragging their poor children along behind them. It doesn't take Sherlock to figure it out.

I look up when the bell goes off, signalling that someone had entered the shop.

Two youths that look around my age, 20, enter. The girl is laughing at something the guy said.
The guy had his arm draped over her shoulders, his fingers playing with her blonde curls.

I smile slightly.

"Good afternoon, how are you today?"
The guy looks up, dumbfounded, searching for who spoke. Oh right. People can hardly see me behind the desk.

Short girl problems.

I walk away from the counter, towards the two.
"Good thank you." The girl with blonde hair answers.
"Do you need help with anything or are you just browsing?" I ask.

"Just browsing, thank you." The girl smiles.

I smile back and walk back towards the counter.

"If you need anything just ask." I say.
"Thank you." The guy replies.

I secretly watch them as they look around the store. Yeah it sounds creepy, but they are the first people today who have actually been kind to me.

Plus they are a cute couple so I'm going to ship them.

The guy is tall, around 6". He has longish Raven black hair that falls over his forehead and sticks up a little at the back. His eyes are a shade of green. They swirl with mischief.

The girl is gorgeous. She stands at about 5"6. Her legs are long and beautifully tanned. Her hair is blonde and curly, except it's not in tight curls. I would describe it as ringlets. Flowing down her back in swirls. Her jaw is quite defined, with her skin flawless. And finally her eyes are grey, but not the dull grey you would think...rather a bright, stormy kind. They are prominent due to her dark, long eyelashes.

The girl reaches out and turns over the price tag to one of the male shirts. It's black with a Star Wars pattern on it.
(Sooorrrrryyyy I couldn't resist)

"How about this one?" She asks him.

"How did you know that Paul is a major Star Wars fan?" He asks, looking at her in amazement.

"I do have conversations with him Percy. Where do you think I got the idea of tutoring you from?" She laughs.

He smiles.

"And here I thought you were telepathic." He says sarcastically.

Percy...that's a cool name.

"Who knows maybe I am. I could have just been throwing you off the scent."
She smirks at him.

Percy shakes his head and grins.

"It wouldn't surprise me Wise Girl."

AHHHH They have nicknames!!!! My heart does a little flip. I have to pretend to fix something under the desk so they don't see me fangirling.

"I reckon we get it." I hear her say.
"Sounds good."
I fix my hair and hope I don't look flustered when I come up from underneath the desk.

Percy puts the shirt on the counter.

"Just this one for today?" I ask.
"Yep." He answers.
I'm about to tell them about the usual sales and bargains that have been drilled into me, when Percy's phone rings.

He apologises quickly to the girl, and takes his phone out.

"Hello?" He asks.
The girl looks over at him briefly before turning back to me.
"I'll pay for it." She says.
I nod, and scan the shirt.
"Yeah I'm just out with Annabeth. We're getting Paul's presents." I hear Percy say.

So that's the girls name....Annabeth.
Percy and Annabeth.
My actual real-life person ship.
Yeaaaahhhhh I should probably stop now.

"That'll be $15." I say.
She nods and opens her purse. She hands me a $20 note.
I thank her and get her change and receipt.
I fold up the shirt and put it in a bag.
"Alright....see you soon....love you mum." I look up just as Percy puts his phone away.
"Alright, time to pay for-" he looks confused when he sees the bag in Annabeth's hand.
"It's okay. I paid for it." She says.
"Wiissssee Girl. I was going to pay for that. He's my step dad after all, shouldn't I be the one to pay for his presents?" He says.

Annabeth smirks and starts walking out of the store.

"He'll be my step dad soon anyway."
She says over his shoulder.

I smile at the look on Percy's face.

Okay I take back want I said...retail isn't all that bad.
