The waves gave a loud crash as they met the shore. The sun with it's blinding light hit the beach perfectly encasing me in warmth. The water seemed to glisten like never before. The laughs of children and their familiies filled the air. The squaking of the greedy seagulls was slightly aggrivating but easily overlooked. Everything seemed so happy. The cool sand lingered on my feet as I walked. The feel all to familar. Nothing could ruin my happiness.I had made it into my first ever surfing competition and I was in the top ten! It was as if I was living each and every one of my wildest dreams. Although there was a peice of everything missing. I still don't have a sponsor. I've never gotten an offer but I craved one more than anything. I was walking right by the shore. I heard somebody calling out my name and I turned to see Dylan rushing towards me.

"Hey Dylan!" I greeted him with a warm smile.  He didn't return it though. In fact he was looking at me like he was dissapointed and like I had done something wrong.

"I saw you surf yesterday," he responded with absoultely no emotion. Okay that's a bit weird.

"Wasn't it awesome?! Sure I could have done with some improvement but I had to go with the only wave that came to me," I told him but he still didn't seem so intrested.

"Yeah it was great. But it kind of took all day," he finally answered. I nodded.

"I know but it was nesscary. Even though it started at ten-"

"You blew me off yesterday." Dylan''s voice had cut through my own and he sounded upset. I blew him off? Since when did I schedule an appointment I just met the kid yesterday. My eyebrow raised in confusion and Dylan looked even more upset.

"Yesterday you promised to help me with my surfing. We both agreed on ten and I sat there on the Western side of the beach all day for you! Once I started walking back home I saw you out there on your surfboard controlling the crowd. You forgot all about me!" he screamed. I looked up at him feeling terrible. I had completly forgotten about him. I gulp loudly and turned away not wanting to meet his eyes,

       "Dylan I'm sorry. I didn't mean to."

"Could you look me in the eyes and tell me that?" he questioned. Slowly I turned my head to look into his face. A look of pure sadness and disapoinment rested there. It was heart breaking. His eyes were even worse. They were a mix of anger and utter sadness.

"I'm sorry Dylan I- I didn't mean to. I was going to the competition to support my brother and.... I just had to try and get into the contest!" I procalimed in my defense. Dylan turned away his face still making me want to burst into tears.

"Whatever. Good luck in your stupid contest Melody," he called walking away and looking worse than when he had come talk to me. I sighed loudly. I couldn't believe I forgot him. I've never broken a promise before. I felt terrible and suddenly the happiness that the beach brought me was gone.
