CHAPTER THREE.

Slowly, I opened my eyes, afraid that whatever was breathing in my face would tear my head off if I made any sudden movements.

For the last five minutes, I had felt hot breathing on my face. Up to this point, I hadn’t had to courage to open my eyes, let alone look at the thing that was surely hovering over me.

I had no reason to be afraid, however, as when I opened my eyes the only thing peering down at me was a teenage girl.

I sat up, eyes wide, as she began talking a thousand miles a minute.

“Yay, you’re awake! Oh I was so scared you’d be asleep like a whole day, because then I wouldn’t have had chance to talk to you! Well, for another day at least. Oh my gosh I cant believe you’re a White Light! The first in like, a hundred years! This is gonna be so-”

I ignored the hyper girl as she rambled on. Something that she had said had hit a memory. What had she said? A White Light? Why did that ring a bell?

And then it hit me.

The office, the headmaster, the story. Everything hit me all at once and I had to lay back down on the… bed? Wait, where was I?

I decided to ask the scary teenage girl.

“Hey, um, yeah, shut up for a second please?” I asked. It was a rather polite way of asking her, considering I was panicking beyond belief.

She complied willingly which was surprising. I was expecting her to carry on talking, leaving me with no other option than to hit her over the head with something rather like a baseball bat.

While she was silent, I took the time to look her over. She had long, wavy dark brown hair. She was very slight, and had the biggest, roundest brown eyes I had ever seen. She seemed oddly familiar.

“Who are you?” I asked her, trying to sound as polite as possible. It seemed this girl was instantly likeable.

“You’ve obviously seen the photo in Mom’s office. I’m Skylar, the headmaster’s daughter.”

So that’s where I had seen her before. She was Mrs Herson’s daughter.

“Oh. Okay. So, why am I here?” I asked, although I had no idea where ‘here’ actually was. Looking around the room, I could see that it must belong to a teenager. There were posters on the walls and there was pink everywhere. Clothes littered the floor, making it hard for me to see the two beds that were placed either side of the spacious room.

Suddenly, I knew where I was.

“Wait… Is this your room? And am I like your new roommate?” I questioned, hoping the answer was no. Sure, Skylar was likeable and would surely become a great friend, but I couldn’t imagine sharing a room with this girl.

“Right in one!” She exclaimed happily. Oh joy.

“Um.. Okay. How did I get here?”

She smiled for a second and only then could I see the true nature of this girl. She was mischievous, to say the least.

“Oh, Mom had someone carry you up. Another student. A hot student.”

As she said this, her eyebrows wiggled and I couldn’t stifle a giggle. She grinned.

And then I realised I had more pressing questions.

“Tell me more about these… White Lights,” I demanded, sitting on the edge of the bed and crossing my legs. Skylar did the same.
