Chapter 9

To Be Human

“Because difference is what makes us all the same…”

“I take it that everything is in order then?” His smooth voice almost floored the secretary.

“Oh y-yes, Principal Whyte, He can start immediately; I just have to get his records in order.” Said the school’s administrative secretary, she was the one that was in charge of processing all of the students permanent records, as well as keeping a head count of every kid.

Logan smirked at the young girl, while giving her a wink. When Lily had called him to meet Exsavior, he had no idea that the werewolf everyone was looking for would become his problem. Nevertheless—like everyone else—he too was intrigued with this particular immortal.

As he turned from the secretary’s desk, Logan was about to make his way back to Exsavior, when someone caught his attention.

“So, who’s the boy?” It was that same voice he knew too well, sounding smug and confident as ever.

“The boy is none of your concern, Claire.” He answered spitefully, as he stared at the short woman, sitting on one of the office couches. He hadn’t noticed her before, which made him realize that she was lurking around the school.

“Why do you always talk coldly to me when you’re in Logan form?” The secretary giggled upon hearing the remark, but no one paid her any attention.

“It’s not a form. I am my own person.” He countered defiantly, as his cocky smooth attitude turned stoic and firm.

“Oh right, you’re insane that way.” Claire mocked as she stood to close the gap between her and the principal.

Logan made no movement; instead, he just stared at her menacingly, while she coyly spoke to him.

“Is it weird that I’m attracted to you in this form?” Logan said nothing, making Clair continue to go down the road of inappropriateness.

“I guess not. We’re both the same, and even if you won’t tell me, I know this is your true form.” Claire said, while softly touching his chest through the bluish collar shirt he wore. She played with each button seductively, before Logan abruptly pulled away from her.

“Believe what you want. You’re just a lost pathetic fool.” He said, as he made his way to Exsavior, who was oblivious to everything.

Claire did not seem bothered by his harsh words; instead, she smirked while speaking.

“Who is that boy? You avoided the question.” She pressed on the subject once again.

Logan stopped in his tracks, but he refused to face her.

“Not that it is any of your concern; he’s just a new human student.”

“Huh, he seems familiar to me.” Claire said, but Logan did not respond to her. He did not particularly care about Exsavior; it was spiting Claire that thrilled him. That and it was also his job to protect the immortal he found.
