I turned over in my bed. The clock read 3:17 am. My body was tired, but my mind was wide awake with fear. It was almost morning, and then I would be safe.

The minutes passed, but they felt like hours. Suddenly I heard something downstairs. My heart thudded in my chest and I squeezed my eyes shut. I heard quiet footsteps, I hoped it was all in my head. Yet, I threw my covers over my body to hide. But when I heard my door squeak, I knew with a sinking feeling in my chest, that I was not imagining this.

My whole body tensed up and I didn't move. I didn't breathe. I didn't make a sound. I heard heavy breathing and I squeezed my eyes even tighter shut. The footsteps walked closer to my bed, and all the sudden I felt immense pain and blacked out.
