The Zombie Dog
Now did Rex actually crawl out of his grave in front of my eyes and try to eat my brain? No. Rex was rushed into the animal clinic I work at as an emergency. His symptoms were vomiting, acting lethargic, panting hard. His owner claimed he was his self last night; but today he woke up and Rex looked very sick. After a quick physical exam Rex's didn't look good; he's gums were a light pink, his breath was labored, he was running a slight fever, his heart was racing fast and when we felt his lower abdomen he muster what little strength he head and whimpered.
Dr. B told me and another Tech that an x-ray should be taken; it took myself and three other co-workers to get this huge German Shepered dog onto the strecher and into x-ray. As we made our way to x-ray Dr. B conseled the owner as to what the physical exam found; and what some possiblities were. My co-workers and I got Rex off the strecher and onto the x-ray table. As soon as we took the x-ray Rex sadly passed away.
The x-ray reveled one large tumor mass in Rex's abdomen; he slipped away so fast when Dr. B stepped in to look at the x-ray, he took a double take of Rex. He flashed a flashlight in his eyes; listened for a heart beat then shook his head. "He's gone." He said and stepped out to tell the owners. I always feel bad for the animals that pass away without their owner by their side; even if they are just a room away. So I gently stroked Rex's head and muttered.
"Poor puppy, I wish you're owner had been back here to say goodbye to you." Just then Rex lifted his head, twitched and took this deep breath; before falling back to the table to remain still. I'd never seen this before so needless to say I was a little shocked. I jumped and thought "Dr. B said you were dead; how are you moving?" Seeing this one of my co-workers smiled and she told me. "Don't worry those are just Agonal breaths and twitches. It's normal for the body to do it some times after death. It's like they're dying breath even thought they have past on."
