Hello all! Welcome to my new book! Hope you enjoy! Let's see where my mind takes me!
Preston's POVIt all happened so fast. I was just sitting there. I don't know when it came to my mind, but I remember thinking slightly about fire. Seconds later, I was standing outside of a burning house. My burning house. When firemen tried to talk me into some sense, and tell them what happened, I ran. I ran into the forest down the block, and I ran through it. I knew it like the back of my hand. All the trees that Rob and I used to play under, but that was a mistake. As I ran through the forest, it started getting warmer. I turned, and realized the bad deed I had done. The tree behind me was on fire, and it was quickly spreading. So I ran. I couldn't get fire out of my head that night, which was why Rob found me crying in an alley.
"Preston?! Oh my god, I've been looking all over for you! Where have you been? What happened?!" I continued crying into my hands and he slowly moved closer. "Preston, everything is fine. You can live with me for a while, and the forest will regrow itself." I looked up, and wiped my tear stained face. "T-the forest... I forgot about that." He looked down, and once again took a step closer to me. After he did so, I moved a bit back. "Preston... it wasn't your fault." That sentence hit me like a brick. The tears started flowing out of my eyes again. "Oh my god, Preston it's okay!" He stepped closer, and I moved back again. "N-no! Rob you don't understand! It was my fault! I SET THE FIRE!" He gasped and stepped back. I cried into my hands for a couple seconds, and I was calm again. "W-when they questioned me... I ran. Into the forest. The fire followed me, it wouldn't leave me alone!" A small plant growing out of a crack in the cement floors suddenly burst into flames. I gasped, and wiped my face. "Please, Rob. Leave me alone."
He stared at me, his eyes filled with shock, confusion, and... is that hopefulness? He smiled, and stepped closer. For yet another time that night, I moved back. "Preston. Come with me. I have to show you something, but first, push fire to the back of your head. Think of something else." I closed my eyes, and thought of him, and our friendship. The flaming plant next to me extinguished. I opened my eyes, and he held out his hand. I grabbed it, and he helped me up. "Follow me." I hesitantly followed him, and soon we were on a hill, behind his house. He sat down, and so did I.
"So, what did you want to show me, Rob?" He held out his hand. Where he was pointing, all the sudden a small orange rose grew out f the ground. I opened my eyes, "Rob, what?!" He smirked, and pointed his hand at the ground, and a few more flowers grew. He carefully tied them into a flower crown, and placed it on my head. "Once you learn to control your powers, they can be used to help you. When you think about your powers, don't just think of a wildfire, think of what you want to do with that fire." He made a vine grow out of the ground a little ways away. "Hit it." I lifted my hand, and pointed my palm towards the vine. I thought of fire, not just any fire, but a fireball, and I imagined it shooting from my hand and hitting the vine, when I opened my eyes, Rob was clapping, and the vine was on fire. "Good job." He smiled brightly, but there was something off with his smile. I pushed it to the back of my head for the time being, and Rob started speaking again.
"I have some friends I need to introduce you to."
There we go. First chapter done.
So yeah?
