Reality Check

-Chapter Twenty-

When my eyes finally open I see nothing but light and hear nothing but voices talking frantically.

"What happened?"

"Uh, I think it is best if she explains that to you."

"Conner, right? This is my daughter we are speaking of and she fainted whilst in the presence of you two. If you did something to hurt my baby-"

"Mom?" I  ask in a very soft tone.

"Oh, are you okay?" she asks as she falls to my side. I notice that I am laying in bed with my mom, Conner, James, Jade, and Ian all sitting in my room.

"Yeah, I feel fine. Why is everyone here?" I ask calmly.

"Conner and James brought you home, you had passed out at their house. Can you remember what happened?"

"Yeah, I think I just got very overwhelmed."

"With what?"

"It's nothing important. Something happened and I got overwhelmed. A panic or anxiety attack or something maybe. I feel fine now, just a bit tired," I explain.

My mother gives me a questioning glance but leaves the subject be.

"Okay, well you better get some proper rest. Are you hungry? You weren't out long, maybe five minutes since you got here."

"Yeah, I do feel kind of hungry."

"We had ordered pizza but she didn't have the chance to eat yet," Conner explains.

"What happened to you?" Jade asks from Conner's side, eyeing his bandages and injuries left my Ryder.

"Nothing, I just fell," Conner lies.

"On what? A pile of bricks?" Ian asks in disbelief.

"I'm fine, okay? But I better get going," Conner sighs, grabbing his coat and walking out.

"I should go with him. I'm glad you're okay Addie, call if you need anything," James says as he follows Conner out.

"Jade, Ian, you can go now."

'Okay, see you later Addison," Jade says, hugging me gently.

The two of them leave and then my mom gives me a pointed look.

"Do you plan on explaining exactly what happened?"

"Not really, no."

"Addison, you know you can tell me anything, right?"

"I know mom, I just know if I am prepared to talk about it."

"Can you tell me what really happened to Conner?"

"No, because then I would have to get into the story of what happened."

"Okay, I have tried being nice with you. Tell me what happened now. You are laying in bed after passing out, the person that brought you home is covered in injuries, and I demand to know."

"Really mom?"

"Yes. I am being completely serious."

"Fine, Ryder cheated on me. Are you happy now?" I cry.

"Ooh sweetie," she says, placing a gentle hand on my shoulder.

"He cheated on me with some girl he used to know. Used me and everything. Conner is injured because he fought Ryder. I passed out because after watching Ryder and Conner fight, I was told about Ryder and the girl. It was too much and I posed out," I tell her. My voice cracks a few times as I tell her the story.
