“Destiny! Stop day dreaming and eat your breakfast!” mom’s voice scowled at me, hey I couldn’t help it, I spent my entire night reading Pride and Prejudice for the 4th time, I just had to finish it.I blankly stared down at my bowl of cheerios, was It just me or did they look like miniature hoola-hoops? Okay no I definitely did not get enough sleep last night. I finished my bowl of cheerios and dumped my bowl is the sink making sure to slip away before mom yells at me for not washing my dishes. I headed upstairs once again to collect my school bag and my copy of ‘Wuthering Heights’ I don’t know why but I really like older books, it excited me its almost as if you learn more in a way.
I headed downstairs and went outside to wait for the school bus.
Unfortunately I couldn’t focus on my book because my cream coloured cardigan kept getting stuck on my backpack’s hook. Typical.
I unhooked my cardigan once again and opened my book and paged through it to get to the folded page. Just as I got there the school bus pulled up, here we go.
I slowly walked up the little amount of steps at the door of the bus and made sure not to trip again like last time.I succeeded and sat down next to Mindy Brooke, Mindy and I have been friends since junior high, we had so much in common and bitched about almost everything together. If I had to get help with hiding a body, she would be the first one to call.
Mindy had chestnut brown hair, slightly frizzed but it made her look cool. She had brown eyes and a few freckles on her face here and there, she usually jokes about them which always cracks me up. She had the perfect curvy body if you ask me but she always denies it. She’s something else. She’s 5”7 she is taller than me unfortunately.
What am I doing? I’m sitting here describing her without you even having the slightest idea of how I look like, I'm Destiny Summers, I have chocolate brown hair about medium length and its cut in layers, I have a side fringe but I always pin it back, I hate hair in my face, I’m 5”4, pretty short in know, I have hazel green eyes and terrible European skin, its honestly the hardest thing in the world for me to get a decent tan. Unlike other girls my age, I like things old school, I have no idea why, I just do.
The bus came to a sudden stop which caused Mindy and I to jerk forward as well.
“When will Rudy learn to drive a bus correctly this happens every fucking time, once more and I’ll sue for fucking whip lash” Mindy murmured next to me.
I let out a small laugh and turned to face her “you know using the word ‘fuck’ or any word made from it doesn’t make you badass Min, I know you want it to but it doesn’t.”
Mindy just rolled her eyes and stuck her tongue out at me and mumbled a faint ‘fuck’ next to me and smirked. We had two more kids to pick up and then we would finally be heading to school, uggg I seriously have to get a new ride. But no I’m too young and irresponsible according to dad; I mean the ‘too young’ part I get, but the irresponsible part? Really?
We finally got to school and everyone scurried out of the bus to get to their groups of friends, Mindy and I on the other hand, were completely calm and relaxed. We had English LIT the first period, I had a feeling Mr. Aldum would make us read either Macbeth or Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare, well he wouldn’t let us read the plays, he would make us reads the stories based on the plays. I’d probably go for Macbeth, I mean come on Romeo and Juliet is so predictable, granted its brilliant work but it’s predictable.
We went to the classroom and got there about 7 minutes early. Typical. That’s us, always on time except for when we get something to eat from the vending machine then we’re late-ish. We greeted Mr. Aldum and took our seats. Mindy, as always started typing away on her new Iphone, while I continued reading Wuthering Heights.
“Destiny, that has to be like the third time you read that book, why not read a different book for a change?” I looked up to see Mr. Aldum grading essays.
“Sir, I don’t really have other ones, I already read Pride And Prejudice and I don’t have any others” I just shrugged as Mr. Aldum looked up from his papers.
“I have a few books back in my class storage room, come by after school and have a look to see if you’re interested in some of them, that’s if you have the time. If not you can come by when you have a free period.” I just nodded and continued reading.
“Obviously she’ll come by, she has no life well no social or modern one anyway” I whipped my head to the door to see Josh Crude standing- no leaning on the door.
I rolled my eyes at him and just continued reading. “See? You don’t even have a comeback I give up you really don’t have a life, are you sure you were born in this century? Even your clothes look like it’s from the medieval times.”
Okay that hurt, but I wasn’t going to do anything, I mean what can I do? I’m just the ‘weird old school bookworm’ I just continued reading and waited for Mr. Aldum to start the lesson. I was completely out of it. Yeah that wasn’t such a bad insult but it was one out of many. I had no idea how to deal with it.
I should probably start dealing with it, and soon.
