She looked at me differently. I don't know what it was...her eyes were burning into mine. I tried reading them, but they way she looked at me now was a way I've never seen before.
She had always been the most hard working, beautiful, passionate, caring, humorous, creative-I could go on forever- girl I have ever meet. I was blessed to call her one of my close friends, but something inside of me told me that just friends wasn't good enough. Sure, I'd love more than anything in the world to be with her. Call her mine. But she was taking on the world. She doesn't need a man to hold her back. I respected that.
"Aman?" she snapped me out of my thoughts. I looked at her fore a few more seconds before shifting my body into a more comfortable position on the couch. We were watching Game of Thrones in Lilly's living room of her laptop until we paused it. We were sitting close to each other, but not too close. The light from the laptop slowly faded to a black screen.
"Yes Lil?"
"Do you remember when first met you? Back at T-DOT's after party...?"
"Of course! I can never forget. One of the best days ever." Her eyes never exactly left my face. I could feel her look at my beard or my turban...just scanning my face. She never did that. I was always the one watching her.
"We hung out after that, and I got to know you more, and you got to know me more. Do you remember what I asked you while people were getting drunk and you know...making love...?"
"Yes...you asked me 'Ever wonder why people go into relationships where there's no love?" And I answered with-" she cut me off and answered herself.
"Well Lilly, humans are twisted. Some people love others without them knowing. The love is pure and genuine, but they never show it. Others have no love for people, and pretend they do. Like these drunk people around us. They don't care who they bang. They just want to bang...." She laughed a little then continued. "A few seconds later your said, "Lilly...love isn't my thing. i dont know."
I spoke now "and you said 'hey it's okay. I don't either.' And you out your hand in mine and smiled. I didn't know what you were thinking in that smile...---
"I was thinking, 'damn he's handsome, speaks like a king, has a good heart, is a phenomenal artist and is intelligent? I'd be so lucky to one day see him again.'"
We both smiled. She laid her head back on the couch and and took a deep breath.
"I'm such a kid Aman. But that Lilly 4 years ago wanted to be with you, I thought you were perfect." She said and my heart started to beat faster. She shifted more towards me and lay her hand on my knee. "And AMAN. I think I still do. I'm just all over the--"
"Lilly?" I looked at her eyes again.
