Shailene is best friends with the wolf Shape Shifter's princess and only heir of the Petrov throne. Her mother and Kate's (our princess') family have been murdered in an ambush at their home by a large group of wolf Shifters when they were both arriving from a business trip. At the sight of the situation Shay takes Kate and runs away from the Royal Estate, leaving their families and their murderers behind. Alone and only twelve they're taken in by humans but because of their "constantly in danger" status decide to leave them for their own safety after 3 years.
Five years of hiding and running from their families murderers and trying to live a human, under-the-radar-life gets lonesome and tiring. What will they do? Well, Shay's considering turning on to the wolf Shifter's for help, but she knows they'll blame her and maybe even lock her up for taking their princess away from her rightful place. But the girls persecutors with a job to finish are edging closer. Kate just doesn't want to go back on one hand; she never pictured herself a politican or a ruler of a whole species of Shape Shifters. She hates the idea of Shay getting punished for protecting her, but feels the need to honor her family's tradition and steps into her father's shoes, its in her blood after all. Even though her now would've been 24-year-old brother had been trained his whole life to take up that throne the whole time.
Will they go back and face whatever comes their way, together and go back to a Royal's life? Or, stay on the run to fend off their families killers alone?
