It's been over a week since I've seen Sophia. I get her usual rant about Lucas but I haven't seen her in so long. The graduation party is tomorrow so I have to clean after class. I pull up to campus and decide walking in late will be fine since my teacher is never there on time. She's a quirky one.
Apparently her life is falling apart at home because she's moving so the Internet is of little use to her right now. Nonetheless I don't mind her. English isn't that hard of a subject for me. I love writing essays but homework and peer editing is what probably will leave me at a B.
I decided I've stalled enough and get out of my jeep. I don't think I'm a jeep person. I don't go outside much and the four wheel drive is mainly used for the ugly potholes around the city. My dad on the other hand goes mudding, hunting and is mister survival with camping. This was his before he passed it along to me. He says when I go a year without a dent I can get the challenger of my dreams. It's slightly unfair because at least once a month he looks at the dent my brother had created before and claims it's changed. It hasn't I'm an excellent driver. At least better than him.
My siblings in general consist of terrible drivers. The eldest, Hector and Monique, both think they can multitask while driving. I don't think they realize swerving on to other lanes isn't qualifying themselves as great multitasking people. My middle siblings, Janet and Joseph, well let's just say they have their own speedy risk taking. Then my last sibling, Kalvin, just knows the most about accidents and how to get in one. Being the youngest is hard but when you have this many crazy brothers and sisters it's easy to look like the normal one.
On my journey to class I catch a familiar glimpse of a person in my peripheral. I turn slowly to take a peek only to be rewarded with awkward eye contact with my ex boyfriend. "Kameron nice seeing you here." I look around to make sure I'm not hallucinating him. "It's school. Not really that nice." I start walking again only to be tailed by him. "What are you doing today?" I don't want this conversation. "Obviously class." He rolls his eyes at me. "I meant after. We can go grab lunch I know you're hungry. My treat." I stop and think about the possibilities that this could end badly. The odds are not in my favor but free food. "Fine. You're driving." Dan smiles because he probably thinks he'll win me back again but not this time.
We've had an on and off relationship for three years. It was only so complicated because Dan didn't know the meaning of a relationship and thought going around kissing his friends was okay. My idiotic younger self just kept going back to him. I loved the idea of being in love with the boy that was practically my first everything. Now I just don't believe in the thought of love all together.
"So you and Sophia seemed to have a fun night." I know the night he's talking about instantly. "It was fun." I smile remembering it for the billionth time. "Why don't you just skip class." I think about it and I'm ahead in the class anyway. "Sure." I turn around and walk in the direction of the parking lot. "I didn't think you'd cave in that fast." I laugh because he just gave me the reason I had been looking for to not go to class. "Same spot you always park in right?" He nods his head with a creepy grin. He just gives me the creeps sometimes.
We finally get in the car and he hands me the aux cord. "Where to?" I start thinking while looking for my music app. I get a text for Sophia but I ignore it. "Cane's I haven't eaten it in forever." He nods and starts pulling up directions. I get another text from Sophia so I decide to glance at it. The first text she sent is a number that doesn't look like its from here. The second text are instructions to text the number and thank her later. I copy and paste the number into a new message. "Hi this is Kameron. I don't know who this is but Sophia said I had to text you person." I text Sophia next telling her what the fuck. "You okay over there? Awfully quiet." I look at Dan and attempt a smile. "Just fine. Sophia just being herself."
The number texts back and I semi panic. "Lmao so you don't know who this is?" I roll my eyes because why else would I say I don't know who this is. "Nope who are you stranger." I wait again for a response and this one is quicker. "It's Malo." What the actual fuck! I break into a huge grin. Okay I got to play cool. "Who?" I send the message and, even though I've known him for a short amount of time, I know he rolled his eyes and smiled. "Fuck I forgot. It's Jose." I giggle and Dan looks at me from the side. "Sophia still being weird." I feel the blush creeping on my face as I nod my head.
"We're here." I look at my surroundings and we're parked at the restaurant. "Actually can we do drive through? I gotta see Sophia." He gives me a disappointed look but still pulls out of the spot. Dan orders our food and then turns the music off. "What are you doing that's my favorite song?" He gives me an eye roll for the millionth time today. "Denise invited me to her graduation party. Do you care if I go? I felt bad and told her I'd be there." I lose the happiness I felt a few moments ago.
I haven't mentioned to my family about the break up so of course she invites him. "I don't care." He smiles and grabs our food from the window. "What if they ask?" I know what he wants to hear. He wants me to say just pretend like we're together. I know he does. "Then tell them what you see fit." He sighs and starts heading back to campus.
The car ride is silent and I respond to Jose. "Oh hey there so uh question why was I given your number?" We finally get to my car and when I get out I get a response. "Not sure myself." In this moment I decide he bores me. Maybe because I'm annoyed at Dan or that I forgot to tell Denise. I don't respond any further. I call Sophia instead.
"Hey so did you text him?" She knew it was his number. "Yeah he has a girlfriend what are you doing?" She laughs and I don't find it funny. "They broke up. Lucas told me to give you his number and we can all hang out." I don't want to be a rebound but then again maybe I need a proper one. "Well he's quite boring to text. I stopped responding." She groans and probably did the usual eye roll. "Can't you just like a boy for more than one day for once in your life." I laugh this time at the irony. "I did and I got a cheater. So now I'm a bit more picky." I hear shuffling around in the background and I can tell she's cleaning. "I'll let you go so you can finish your choirs Cinderella. Talk to you later!"
I hang up after she says bye and start my drive home. I don't know how to feel about Jose no longer having a girlfriend and I still doubt I'll ever see him again. Plus Tanner is pretty pissed off at me after that night. I don't blame him. I was awfully rude. I don't however feel like apologizing.
When I get home I go straight to my studio so I don't have to associate with anyone. I turn music on loudly, so my mom knows I'm home, and start the process of cleaning. It doesn't take long and I decide to sleep in here tonight. I go next door for a few snacks and grab Tiger. We cuddle on my bed together and I turn on Netflix. This is my own form of Netflix and chill. I'm content with it. I decide to watch a few episodes of Gossip Girl again but I doze off midway through the first episode.
