As they sat atop the grassy hill, Rani overlooked the sea. Her gaze was caught, memorizing the way the waves always came back to the shore.

She turned to look at Adonis, who was watching her. His vibrant eyes full of betrayal, longing for truth. Rani took a deep breath.

"Obviously I have a lot of explaining to do," Rani smiled sadly. When she didn't get a reaction, she continued. "I realize now that telling you the truth would have been so much easier. I just need you to tell me you won't reject me." She told him.

"Rani, I love you too much to let you go. Yeah, you lying really broke me down, but anything you say won't affect my decision." He caressed her cheek softly as she leaned into his hand. She took his in hers and watched him, carefully picking her next words.

"Remember when I told you I was from across the sea?" Rani asked and he nodded. "I'm really not from across the sea, I'm from it." She said slowly.

"What, do you mean like a fish?" he breathed, his face was contorted in shock.

"Kind of, I'm a... a mermaid." She smiled sheepishly. "My father is Poseidon, the sea God. He is the King of the Atlantian kingdom, which makes me a princess and a demigod."

"If you're a mermaid with a God as a father and a princess of a kingdom, why run away?" Adonis whispered.

"Because that man, Bryice, he's the prince of the Arctic Region. He and his father offered my father a truce and a combined realm for my hand in marriage. When I refused, my father yelled at me, causing me to wind up here. With you." Rani smiled softly, touching his jaw. "And it was the best decision I could have ever made."

"Now, why couldn't you just tell me that?" Adonis smiled as he kissed her forehead.

"I was afraid you wouldn't believe me! That you would think I was crazy." Rani smirked. Adonis helped her up and wrapped her in a warm embrace, shielding her from the occasional droplet of rain.

"Just a little." He snickered, earning a hiss from Rani. "So, what are we going to do about Bryice?" Adonis whispered thoughtfully, his serious tone becoming more prominent.

"Well, he won't take the break up very well, but I was never his property in the first place. If push comes to shove, I'll dual him for my kingdom and my freedom." Rani said tucking a few stray strands behind her ear, working her way back to the town square, escorted by Sentinels.
