CHAPTER 1

Tsunami

Entry 25

It's been nearly three days since I sent the letter. Of course, it would take a long while for it to reach them. I had so much anxiety. What if they hated me? What if they thought I never cared? What if it never reached them? What if they thought it was a fake?

I sit in my father's old rocking chair, writing this, worrying. My breathing is short. I can't focus. I think I'll end it here

I let out a deep sigh. She should be back by now, I thought. Phoenixs were fast, tolerable to severe weather, what's happened to her?

The low light of the lamp next to me lit my troubled face. The house was silent, not a sound to be heard. Only the creeks of the floorboards as I rocked slowly back and forth. The children had fallen asleep. The animals were asleep. The sun was asleep. But the moon, stars, fireflies and I were awake.

I closed my eyes to think. Just then, there was a tapping at the windowsill. It was Phoenix Fire, and she'd successfully delivered the letter to Jay.

I smiled with delight, hiding my fear. She landed on my shoulder. She fumbled around with my hair, and gave me a small, slight nudge on the point of my ear to tell me the trip went well, and Jay's reaction played out well.

I was able to relax a little. I knew Kass would help Jay cope. I closed my eyes, and relaxed again.

"Momma?" A soft voice from the hallway said. It was high, like tinkling bells, my first born daughter Estrella.

"Yes, Estrella?" I coolly answered back.

"W-well... I-I was wondering... Y-you said when the scary men were gone..." She hesitated a little, "You'd tell us about Papa."
