"You have a job at the mansion! I don't really know what you need to do but at least
you get to go up there, your friends would be so jealous! Hey, maybe you can find a prince!" My mother gushed at the possibilities, gasping at her thoughts.
A Prince? Really? I don't understand why a person of such royalty would pick someone like me if they were to choose. I wasn't even that pretty. My skin was too pale, my golden hair always tangled and wiry, losing its quality. My eyes were also pale. Honestly, I just seemed like a ghost, no one ever noticed me. So, why would the people in the mansion pick me? I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't notice my mother still talking.
"Hope! Are you even listening to me? I'm talking to you." My mother had her hands on her hips and she tapped her foot against the tiled ground.
"I'm sorry mom, but I'm not really into it. I mean, the mansion? A Prince? People barely notice me down here, why would they want me? Maybe it was just a mix up." I told her, continuing to look out the window that looked out to the trees behind our home. Birds and rabbits normally skittered around the leaves.
Mother had left to go see if what I said was true. Secretly in my head I wished it were not true. For once I kind of wanted to be in the spotlight and to be known as a somebody.

A couple days went and come and finally we received a letter back to us from the people in the mansion. My mother read it out clearly to me, "We insure you, we have made no mistake. Your daughter Hope Valentine has been offered a job at our mansion. To specify on the job, we would like if she were to come and serve us. She would be paid very well." She spoke with an excited tone. "See dear, I told you. They want you to work for them!" She cheered.
I scanned her. Her mousy brown hair was well taken care of, for what we could do anyway. It fell to the mid of her back. Her eyes were a bright blue, her body skinny and frail. We didn't get much food either because we were poor. Although the thought of serving someone like a dog made me want to punch something, I knew we needed the money. I spoke up in my quite voice, "Okay. When do I start..?"

It was Saturday and it was burning hot outside. The air was humid, though sometimes a strong wind would rush through making it a moment of pleasure. I walked through the empty streets of our small village, all the houses almost the same, definitely the same small size. The houses were built for about four people to live in them. The only big house in the village was the mansion. It was odd but also gave it so we had some sort of royalty to look up to. Walking slowly to the mansion, my stomach started to do flips. I was so nervous and afraid of what they would think of me. With a sigh I walked faster, walking up the long dirt trail to the huge white and blue mansion. Framing the door and around the huge home were large white columns, the windows were large and the door way too. The windows were rimmed in white, but inside everything looked black like no one was home. Almost all of the rest of the mansion was a blue color. Outside of the mansion, trees lined the way almost right to the door step. The garden was filled with red and white roses. They were beautiful and they gave off a sweet scent. Sighing, I made my way to the door steps. Lifting my hand to knock, I was shocked when I heard a knock first. Blinking, I took a step away. Had I really heard that? With a small shake of my head I moved closer and knocked, again hearing a knock back to me from the other side. Then, the door creaked open ever so slightly. I looked into the small opening but inside everything was dark. I opened the door slightly so I could peek my head in. Pitch black met me.
"Hello?" I called out, my voice cracking as I did so. Why was I scared? They were probably just out for a moment. They had ben the ones to tell me to meet them here though. Just went to say that royalty didn't hold deals. Taking a step into the mansion, I tried looking around, "Hello!" I called out louder. There was no response. Not knowing what to do, I turned to leave but the lights in the mansion flickered to life. Startled, I whipped around, looking up at the lights then around the mansion. In front of me was a massive stair case that led up, then two separate stair cases leading opposite directions. The space around me was open and wide, like there could be a ball held in the space. The floor looked as if it were made of marble but it was the most pretty blue color. The queen most love the color blue.
"Hello??" I called out again, looking around and looking back at the door. The mansion was strange and I had only been here for a few minutes. I could only imagine being here every day.
Hearing the slight tap of a show to the marble I spun around breathing heavy. Standing there was two people. A boy and a girl. They looked about my age and they also looked very similar. Must have been twins... they both had a dark, midnight back hair that looked shiny and very well taken care of. The girls eyes freaked me out. One was a deep red color, looking as if it were blood. I shivered at the sight of it. The other eye was a bright blue, but had an icy look to it. The males eyes I'm sure was the same, but only his red one was visible. His shaggy hair covered the other one. The girls hair was in piggy tails, curls falling down. Her clothing looked expensive, and tight. She had a slim body, not skinny like my mothers or mine. The dress came down to frills at the bottom that ended higher above her knees, not something I would like. It pretty much just came down enough to protect exposing her parts. But, underneath that she wore black tights with very pretty designs on them. She wore black books that went up to her knees with laces to top it all off. She was so beautiful, and also had pale skin like I did. Something they again shared.
The boy, he was beautiful. He wore a simple black and white tux but it looked so vintage. His shoes were black and shiny, like they were just cleaned. Where the tie on his tux should have been, was a black ribbon in it's place.
The two looked at me with smirks pulling at their lips. "Well, well, well, what do we have here sister?" The boy spoke with a small chuckle at the end. He had a British accent that held mischief in it.
The girl chuckled back to him, "I believe we have an intruder! Oh what shall we do brother?" Her voice was sly and smooth. It also held a British accent that held mock in it. Her arms were crossed over her chest, her head slightly tilted as she examined me.
I looked at them both with wide eyes, "I-I was suppose to be here! For a job!" I exclaimed. They both laughed, like it was a joke.
"We are not looking for someone to take a job!" The girl giggled out in a creepy sort of way.
They boy looked toward me, his eyes burning me, I felt like I couldn't move. "I guess we just have a little snack then." She mumbled out, his voice dropping till it was low.
I looked at them both, panicking. My heart beat raced, making it loud to the point that that was almost the only thing I could hear. Slowly, they both inched toward me, smiling in a insane and twisted way. Screaming out, everything plunged into darkness.
