My name is Vanessa. I live in a small city called Panem in North America, which is made up of small segments. I stay in a small house in District 5, which is a richer segment of Panem and although we may be poor, we are richer than most districts owned by the Capitol. Unfortunately, due to the lack of space I have to share a room with my twin brother, Rory, my younger sister, Kaiylie, and my older brother, Peter. Peter is the father figure to the entire family, except myself. Our parents died when Kaiylie was a baby and ever since then we have been looking after ourselves, with a little help from our friends.
I am 16, Peter is 20. That might not seem like a huge age gap to you, but for us it is a difference between life or death every year and has been for the past two years. Two years ago Peter was declared too old to compete in the Hunger Games but me, Rory and Kaiylie were and still are the prime age. The reaping was next week and me and Rory had signed up for Tesserae. We were not allowing Kaiylie to as it would only give her more chances of being reaped.
