Liana is 12 years old. She and her brother Gabe are more than just siblings. They're best friends. Gabe is 2 years younger than Liana, and Liana has promised herself to protect Gabe. But that promise may be broken without her knowing. And then her life changes, and it all goes wrong.
On summer break, her parents decided that as a reward to their great report cards, they would take Liana and Gabe hiking.
They had been hiking for about half an hour. "I'm hungry, can we stop and eat now?" Asked Gabe.
"Yeah, there's a ledge further up on the hill we can stop at." Answered Liliana, their mother.
Liana heard a twig snap behind her, and instinctively turned to look. When she turned back around her father, Gabriel, and her mother were gone. Gabe wasn't moving, he was, just... frozen.
"What the-" Liana could barely move herself. "Gabe?" She said cautiously, poking Gabe in the shoulder. Nothing. Liana could barely breath. "Mom, Dad?" She was now shaking intensively. She looked all around, then finally noticed a small, stone, moss covered entrance. It was a dark arch of rock, and Liana didn't dare get any closer.
One more time, she tried, "Gabe, please..." And that moment Gabe unforoze with a jolt.
"Liana, where are Mom and Dad?!" He said it so loud, it echoed out of the entrance. "Woah, what's that?" He gestured toward the stone.
"Gabe, what happened? I turned around for half a second, then you're frozen, and Mom and Dad are gone!" Liana was panicking.
"What do you mean, frozen?" Gabe looked really confused.
"You were frozen when I turned around! What's happening?" Liana's heart was beating too fast now.
"Liana, call me crazy, but I'm going in there." Gabe told her shakily.
