Chapter 26
[Marie's POV]
The offices for teacher's assistant's and professors are right next to counseling. Thankfully it's all the way across campus, so I make sure to take my time. But, the closer I get, the more nervous I become. Not because I know something will happen, but because it'll be the first time in months that we are gonna hold a conversation for more than one minute therefore I know some shit's gonna happen.
"Hey." Donavan casually saunters up next to me, matching my pace.
A warm feeling softens my belly. "Hey." I smile, looking up at his six foot-too tall stature. He looks down at me with his chocolate colored eyes only for a second before looking ahead. He seems super nervous, my smile widens.
"What's up?"
Donavan shrugs his shoulders, "Nothing much just trying to get the balls to ask you out."
My smile instantly drops.
"And I'm guessing that's a hell no." He chuckles, more amused than hurt.
I bite my lip nervously. "No, it's just," I trail off just as I notice Ethan walking into the Faculty building about a yard away. I gulp, my stomach doing uncomfortable turns.
Donavan follows my line of vision and as soon as he see's Ethan, clarity brightens his features. Then, something...dangerous, flashes in his gaze.
The look is gone as soon as he looks down at me.
I try to pretend that I didn't see it, so I just change the subject, "Anyway, I'm just not ready for the relationship type stuff just yet."
Donovan nods his head in understanding, "Bad breakup."
"Almost the worst experience of my life. I'm sorry." I place my hand on his in comfort.
He squeezes it then brings it up to his plump lips, "Don't be, it's okay." After placing a soft kiss to the back of my hand, he drops it gently at my side. "Nice knowing ya, Marie Halz." And with that he walks away.
I can't help but grin as I watch his broad shoulders and blasé swagger.
Eww. Did I just use swagger?
Shaking my head, I take a deep breath and continue to walk the couple feet that I have left to the Faculty building doors. When I enter, I walk up to the receptionist's desk, "Mr. Samuels room please. He said to meet him here."
The women, who looks to be in her mid twenties, with bright red curly waves nods her head, and a pleasant smile says, "Go ahead and take a seat, I'll call him up right now."
I return her smile and take a seat. As I sit there patiently, I get the feeling I'm in the principle office about to get in trouble. Well, I guess, in a way I am. Stupid Ethan. Why couldn't he have given me a warning like normal people?
"Mr. Samuels will see you now. His office is just down this hall, take a sharp left and it'll be the second door on your right." The receptionist lady says, breaking me from my thoughts.
A wave of nerves erupts in the pit of tummy. "Thank you." I smile at the women as I stand. She nods before going back to her work on the computer.
"Lord, help me." I mutter a silent prayer to myself as I walk past the receptionist desk and down the hall. I follow her instructions and within seconds, I'm standing in front of a door with Ethan Samuels on a label next to it.
