When I started writing this fic, it was meant to be a simple one-shot about this little idea I couldn't get out of my head. Then things got out of control and it ended up becoming a multi-chapter story that, thank goodness, I managed to finish.
I wanted to write a Raiden fic for years, no joke. I remember being so excited when MGS Rising (yeah, that long, before the concept was scraped and revamped into MGR) was announced that I wanted to do something for him. Unfortunately, along the way I got into other fandoms and I forgot all about Raiden. I'm trash, I know, but my interest was rekindled not long ago when I got the chance to play MGR. And I was so ecstatic about that game that I couldn't stop myself from coming up with this storyline XD.
So before we begin, what you need to know is that this fic takes place some time before and during the events of MGS4. I apologize for any inaccuracies you may spot along the way. The story of Metal Gear is extensive and I wasn't very familiar with it back then!
I want to dedicate this fic to a good friend of mine, Alexandra. Thank you for supporting me in this endeavor and for your never-ending enthusiasm!

Part I: Beauty and Beast
It was in the Paradise Lost Army that you met Raiden for the first time.
If you thought about it, it was quite the funny recollection actually. Having heard the rumors of a new asset in the PLA, it wasn't long before Big Mama assigned you to carry out an infiltration and rescue mission with him. Why, of course you were mildly interested in getting to know this 'Raiden'. If EVA herself had gone out of her way to enlist his help, then he must have been a big deal- or so you'd heard. He'd been directly involved in the Manhattan incident, so that had to count for something.
It's not like you were ecstatic about meeting him, though, or even had the time to think about it. With the never-ending pile of paperwork waiting on your desk, you'd barely given his dossier a proper read. The guy was attractive, you'd give him that; short blonde hair in a crew cut, army greens, and a no-nonsense look in those blue eyes, but honestly you had too much to do to even bother digging in his past. If he had special forces experience and Big Mama trusted him, then than should have been enough.
Well, he wasn't anything like what you'd expected, for sure.
When you walked into the briefing room to review last details of the upcoming mission with a mug of black coffee in hand, you were baffled to find only some of your colleagues and a young woman- whom you'd never seen in your entire life- were reunited.
Apparently Raiden was nowhere to be found so despite the praises you'd heard and good recommendations, his lack of punctuality didn't make for a good first impression.
