My name is Elisabeth Summers. I am 19 years old, and I have graduated from Ecrest High School at the top of my class, and moved into a fair sized apartment. Last year, I was offered a scholarship into Brown University, but I declined because I needed to get away from my life in Rhode Island. I had received 4 other scholarships for North Carolina State University, Yale University, Florida State University, and Princeton University. I declined NCSU, Yale, and Princeton because they are all too close to my alcoholic mother, severely depressed father, and 3 siblings who have all attempted to kill me- I'm not joking, they have physically chased me down the street with a knife and screamed for me to kill myself.
I have lived this way for 19 years, and many people would say "why don't you help your parents into rehab", or "you are a selfish young woman for not taking care of your parents". I have tried multiple times to bring my parents to rehab facilities, except everywhere I take them, the employees of the center tell me there is nothing they can do. Every time I try to help my parents myself, they hit me and tell me to "get the hell off of their property", like they don't even know who I am. So I have decided to take the scholarship in Florida, and live a happy life away from my parents. I will get a good job, and my uncle has a house that he will let me live in for as long as I need. I leave for Florida tomorrow, and I will hopefully meet someone sweet, and live in Florida, or somewhere else, to live a happy life. I just hope that my family doesn't track me down.
