Lucy's POV
I woke up the next morning and Lockwood was no longer in my room. I heard a small clinking noise coming from outside my window, so I walked over and looked out. To my surprise, the source of the noise was James himself throwing small stones at my window to get my attention, he saw me and started beckoning for me to come out. I sighed and got dressed hurriedly, then tiptoed down the stairs and out the front door. "What the hell are you doing here?" I hissed, "Lockwood would kill you if he saw you, plus it's 6:00 in the morning!
"I came here to see you, Lucy. Also to apologise for my behaviour last night," he said charmingly. "I really can't talk now James, Lockwood and George will be up soon if they aren't already."
"Ok I get it, one more thing," James grinned, "meet me at 1:00 and we will have that tea we never got around to."
"Ok," I agreed and bid him goodbye before running back in to the house."Hey Lucy! Your up early for once," George said with a look of astonishment on his face. "I guess so," I shrugged. I sat down as George pushed a plate in front of me filled with pancakes. "Thanks," I said then tucked in. Footsteps came from the stairs then Lockwood burst in. "Morning everyone," he chirped then sat down to eat. I pushed a pancake around my plate before I spoke up. "Lockwood is it alright if I go out for a bit today? If we don't have any cases that it," I asked looking up at him. "Sure Luce, where are you off to?" I struggled for an excuse. "Oh...em... I'm going out to the shops, I need a new skirts and a coat as the old ones are covered in ectoplasm," I added whilst indicating to the ectoplasm stained skirt I was wearing at the moment. "Ok," Lockwood gave in.
12:55 the clock read, I had five minutes. I decided not to wear the dress because then the boys would suspect something. I brushed my hair and ran down stairs, I grabbed my satchel and yelled goodbye in to the house before heading to the cafe I was meeting James at. Sure enough there was James standing outside grinning. He had jeans and a grey shirt on and his hair was styled to one side, he wore the same lopsided grin I had seen on my first encounter with him. He waved, "hey Lucy!" He yelled. I walked up to him and we walked in to the cafe and sat down at a table. He ordered us both tea and a bun I offered to pay but he refused. "So Lucy, I wanted to apologise for what happened last night, what I did was completely out of order." He said.
"Your right it was, don't ever touch him again." I warned.
"Come on Lucy, you can't just be mad at me! He started it!" He exclaimed.
"It doesn't matter who started it! You shouldn't have hit him back!" I yelled.
"I don't see why I asked you out here if all your gonna talk about is that idiot of guy!" He yelled back, standing up.
"Well maybe it's because....I...I love him." I realised it now, all those awkward silences, all the silly knowing smirks George gives me, the reason I struggle to make eye contact, the butterfly's I get in my stomach every time his hand accidentally touches mine. All those little things are all because I love him. James said nothing else he just stared at me. I felt a wide grin spread across my face, I repeated myself, "I love Lockwood!" I shouted with glee. I grabbed my satchel, hugged James goodbye and thanked him for the tea, I ran all the way home to tell Lockwood how I really felt.I burst through the door to find Lockwood sitting lazily across his armchair with his legs hanging elegantly off the side, and George asleep in the chair opposite. Lockwood looked up from his gossip magazine. "Oh hello Lucy!" He jumped up, "welcome home, did you get any new outfits?" He asked, I smile at the fact that he remembered. "No actually, there was nothing nice."
"Oh I see," he said, "care to tell me where you really went?" I gulped, he'd figured it out then. I sighed and gave in, "This morning James was throwing stones at my window, and when I looked out he asked me to go out for tea so I agreed. I met him there at 1:00 and he apologised for last night, I didn't forgive him and then I realised something important." I said. Lockwood clenched his fists, "I'm gonna kill him." He said through clenched teeth. "No you are not!" I yelled, I was surprised George didn't wake up. "Do you know why I left Lockwood?" I asked, he shook his head. " because I realised something." I inhaled a deep breath and before I could stop myself I blurted out: "Lockwood, I love you, I realise it now. I really do. I love you." I finished. He just stared at me, I waited nervously for his answer. Suddenly he grabbed me in to a tight hug that lifted me off the ground. "Ouch Lockwood, my ribs," I wheezed, he set me gently down and looked at me smiling. "It took you long enough!" He said, "wait, what?" I asked. "Lucy, I love you too," he said then silenced me with a kiss.
"About time." I heard George mutter in the background.
