It was the day after AM had released and I was bored and decided to listen to the album. I stuck it on YouTube and listened carefully to the lyrics. Some singles had already been released before the album but I hadn't bothered listening to it yet. AM sounded so much different to Suck It And See. This time it was more dark, more unique and as if they had a different sound. It was like a different band.
I could hear some elements of the old albums in the lyrics and song titles but this was a whole new look for them. I felt as if the album was focused on the lyrics and the bass and riffs most of all. I was three songs in and already in love with it. I listened to Arabella and it sounded just like he'd sang it to me that day. I was finally nearing the end of the album and I was watching the world go by outside as I sat on the end of my bed painting my nails out of boredom.
"But that place on memory lane."
Wait. I stopped the album and YouTubed the song it's self. 'Fireside'. I listened carefully to the lyrics and found that there were quite a few references to our relationship. 'Memory lane' and 'hotel suite.' Even though it was an apartment I lived in it still all made sense.
'And I thought I was yours forever
Maybe I was mistaken but I just cannot manage to make it through the day
Without thinking of you lately'
I inhaled deeply and the song stopped. That last verse. It hit me hard. It was clear Alex still thought about me, maybe even upset over what happened nine months ago.
