I sent my solid fist into the stand.
I had nothing but pure rage fueling me.
Using my signature round house kick, my kick box stand goes flying across the room.
My chest painfully heaves. I've barely slept these past few days.
Losing a Clan member is always hard. Everyone is family, blood or not. But it hurts even more when you're the reason they are gone. My dad and brother tried talking to me, but left after a while.
I let out a frustrated yell, this is the fourth kick box stand this week. Don't they know how to build something that won't snap like a twig?
"Phoenix?" Caine asks.
I didn't even hear him come in.
"What?" I snap.
"Dad wants to see you."
"Why?"
"No clue, he just said he needed to see you now."
"I'll be there in a second, just let me wash up."
"I don't know, he seemed like it was pretty important."
"I don't care, it can wait." I say before pushing past him in the door.
Usually I'm not such a class A bitch but I'm not exactly having the best week.
I walk to my room and get into a shower that is calling my name.
I lather on my amber shampoo and conditioner. I don't know why but the scent has always calmed me. Something about it just makes me want to take a step back and breathe.
I jump out of the shower and change into some simple black sweat pants and hunter green tank top. Quickly running a brush through my tangled hair, I'm out the door.
After a five minute walk I'm at the door of Dad's office.
I knock lightly on the door.
"Come in." Dad's authoritative voice booms.
"You wanted to see me?" I say as I walk in and plop down on a couch.
"Phoenix, we need to talk."
Honestly, give me one scenario where when a parent says that, it means something good.
"Lately, you've been out of it." He continues, "After Ronnie was... killed, you've seemed to of taken it too personally. Self-declaring her death as your fault."
"But it was my fault."
"It could of happened to anyone."
"You're right, anyone could have been killed but either way it would have been my fault."
"You were distracted while trying to protect your brother."
"I was reckless and we both know it."
"Point is, now you're distracted by Ronnie's death. And that is not only dangerous for the Clan but yourself as well."
"So what? You're gonna send me to therapy? So I can talk to someone who doesn't even know werewolves exist all about how a werewolf ripped my aunt to shreds? Not such a good idea pap."
"No, more along the lines of you're moving."
"Excuse me?" I stutter.
"You need a break, I get that. So I want you to take some time off and just take a breather."
"I don't need a breather." I say with air quotations.
"It wasn't a question."
"Where the heck am I supposed to go?"
