I wake up to yelling. What the hell?
I groan and get out of bed, as I walk towards the door I trip on something. I look down and see my suitcase.
"What the hell?" I mutter to myself.
I may as well change before doing down. These pajamas are starting to smell.
I crawl into the shower and let the warm water wake me up.
Yesterday was.... eventful.
I escaped, and I was so sure I was out of this hell hole. Then, Griffin came out of no where. At first I generally thought he was overreacting.
But then there were rogues.
I had no clue rogues were basically patrolling the borders. What if I had run into them? With no weapon. I would have fighting with a twig if I was lucky to get my hands on one.
When we got home, Griffin was borderline ready to kill Chris and Nate.
When we walked in, they didn't even know who I was. Sure as hell they figured it out while Griffin yelled about protecting his mate.
In the end Griffin agreed to give the guys one last chance, need be that they ever have to lift a finger because an enemy barged in.
In the long run, could I use the rogues to my advantage? Clearly they are a big distraction for Griffin. Then again, because of their threat he will keep an extra close eye one me. Not to mention border patrols have probably increased.
I wonder if anyone outside of the pack has heard about Wolf Claw's new Luna.
I hope not, it will make leaving a whole lot easier.
I towel dry after I get out of a shower. Never have I appreciated having clean skin again. Compared to earlier, I look as good as I ever have.Yeah, but who are you looking good for? A small voice is the back of my head says.
I shake the thought of impressing Griffin out of my head. What do I have to prove to him? Nothing, the fewer strings attached the better.
I crack open the suitcase.
I jump back slightly. How the hell did they get all of my clothes? Those furry bastards broke into my apartment!
I wiggle into some skinny jeans, a black tank top with a white picture of two seahorses that are facing each other, and a navy leather jacket. After strapping into my black wedges, I walk downstairs.
Chris and Nate's eyes instantly roam over me.
"Eyes up here." I say.
Chris looks away, but Nate smirks.
My stomach howls in protest. I didn't realize how hungry I was.
"Doesn't Griffin have any food around here?"
"Nope." Nate says, popping the p.
"Usually Casey cooks for him." Chris says.
"Who?" I ask, confused.
An anger bubbles somewhere deep within my chest.
"Oh I didn't realize...." Chris fades off.
"Who is she?" I growl.
"Casey is sort of Griffin's girlfriend."
"More like fuck buddy." Nate laughs out.
"Griffin has a girlfriend?" I say.
I'm ready to start yelling. That asshole! He is trying to trap me here while he is apparently in a relationship.
"Ex girlfriend, I mean." Chris says quickly.
"Screw this." I mutter before walking back upstairs.
Maybe three hours later my stomach seems to take over me. I can't control my feet as they eagerly scurry towards the kitchen.
I'm about to walk down the stairs when I come to an immediate hauls because of what I see.
Chris and Nate are laying limp on the ground. I can't help but hope they aren't dead.
I notice another figure in the room. Every instinct I have is screaming that he is a threat, not to mention rogue. The rogue snarls at me, even in human form he couldn't sound more feral.
"Who are you?" I ask.
"I go by many names, none of which you're worthy of saying."
"Oh please, what worth is your name if no one knows it?" I ground out.
I specialize in getting under people's skin.
"It's Garrett." He grounds out.
"See Garrett, was that so hard? Now I can tell people it's you who I killed instead of 'just another rogue'."
He snorts slightly, "Kill me? I'd like to see a pathetic human like you try."
I click my tongue and walk towards the kitchen. His eyes burn holes into the back my neck.
You know what I love about kitchens? Not only the food, but plenty of weapons. My favorite, being a knife.
"You're rather rude. Not even asking my name before attempting to insult me. Tsk tsk." I say while shaking my head disapprovingly.
"Who are you?" He asks annoyed.
"You see, my name has a lot of worth because I actually tell people what it is."
"What's your name?" He grounds out.
"The name's Phoenix, butch."
His eyes involuntarily widen.
"But you're a Luna."
"Not yet, not ever. I'm a Hunter, with nothing to it."
He snarls before lunging at me. From across the room, you wouldn't expect him to make it, but as he shifted mid air he soared into the kitchen.
While he wasn't paying attention I had grabbed a knife.
I squat down and the over sized animal soars over me. I stand back up, just in time to dig the knife into his torso.
He howls in pain and turns back towards me. I quickly grab another knife and throw it at his head. He dodges and the only thing I can do is dart out of the room.
I run to the couch and jump behind it. Garrett is on top of me, snapping at my face. I hold one hand on his neck, creating distance between me and his canines.
My other hand glides along his torso, looking for the knife. I wrap my fingers tightly around it and yank it out.
Garrett whines lightly but doesn't stop trying to eat my face. I bring the knife back to my side and slice it across his throat.
The front door bangs open as Garrett's body falls limp above me. Immediately the heavy body is lifted off of me and I see a panicked Griffin.
He amber eyes frantically search my body for scars. I put a gentle hand on his face.
"Hey, I'm fine. He didn't even get in a hit."
Griffin's head instinctively pushes into my hand.
After a while he seems to come to his senses.
"Why aren't you crying or something?"
"Why would I be crying?"
Gee, thanks for thinking of me like I'm another weakling.
"You killed someone."
"My Dad taught me how to hunt."
Werewolves, I secretly say to myself.
"How 'd you do it?"
"What?"
"Kill him, I mean."
"Used a knife. Stabbed him in the gut and slit his throat." I say with a shrug.
"Good job." He chuckles.
Pride rises in my chest, "Thank you."
"Should we wake them up?" Griffin says, referring to Chris and Nate.
"Yes! This will be fun." I say with an evil smile.
"You sound like you have an idea?"
"Of course, I have an idea for everything. I say you wake them up, beyond mad and stuff. Tell them I've been taken and we can watch them beg for forgiveness and what not."
"Hmm sounds good."
He stands up, walking up to Chris and Nate's unconscious bodies. He lifts them both up by the collar with ease.
My mouth waters slightly, he is really strong.
"Wake up." He booms in Alpha command.
They both wake up instantly. I duck behind the couch as their frantic eyes search the room.
"Rogue."
"Took."
"Luna."
They continue each others' sentence.
"What the hell do you mean by she was taken?" He growls.
A shiver runs down my back. Damn, this guy can be scary whenever he really wants to be, even to pull a prank.
"Alpha Griffin, please forgive us. They were massive at least five of them. We were surrounded." Nate rushes out.
"Yeah, then another group of rogues came in and grabbed Veronica. We couldn't do anything after that because they knocked us out." Chris adds.
"I don't want you around Veronica anymore."
"We'll find her, Alpha. It's our responsibility."
"Yet you have failed at two things." Griffin growls.
A confused glaze covers their eyes.
"Two?" Nate asks.
"Not protecting your Luna." He states.
"Which we've explained." Chris says.
"And lying to your Alpha."
They both pale instantly.
Now it's my time to shine. I stand up with grace.
"Really? We were surrounded, they knocked us out." I mock.
"How?"
"The rogue?""What?"
They both repeat these stupid questions.
"Let's just say I have new fur to make a blanket with."
They both open and close their mouths, unsure whether or not to say anything.
"Get out of my sight, both of you." Griffin growls, throwing them across the room.
He acts like throwing two grown men is like picking up a feather.
They run out the house at werewolf speed. I don't blame them.
I turn towards Griffin.
"I must say that your acting is superb." I say in a formal tone.
"Why, thank you Ms. Veronica."
"Now let's talk about this Casey character." I growl.
