I yawned and stretched, arching my back like a cat. The sun laid comforting warmth on my damp head. I just had the best bath of my life and I am ready to hit the road; although I wouldn’t mind not seeing Morrie for the whole day if it were possible. My odds didn’t look good when she and Rudy approached me, their arms linked. Or was she dragging Rudy along. He seemed to have a miserable face. Now that I looked it even seemed like Morrie’s catty face looked a little steamed.
“Your horrible friend was poking fun at my beautiful little innocent friend!” Morrie cried, throwing Rudy at me.
“Uh, what?” I asked, looking down at Rudy as though I was his parent but Rudy jumped up indignantly.
“I was not making fun of her!” Rudy wailed, “She has not said I word to me this entire time and I only said ‘don’t be a baby about it’ and Morrie went off the deep end and attacked me!”
“No, Rudy was being a total egghead,” Morrie continued to squabble, “he said, and I quote, ‘why are you being such a baby. Surely you can say a few words! I’ve heard baby rabbits talk more than you,’” Morrie looked between us, waiting for us to register an opinion.
“And?” I asked, unsure of the context of the story.
“You don’t think that’s unbelievably rude?” Morrie cried.
“Well, she hasn’t said anything to me either,” I pouted.
“Of course she hasn’t, she’s a mute!” Morrie was completely enraged.
“Rudy!” I scolded instantly, “you just made fun of a mute for not speaking!”
“I didn’t know!” Rudy wailed throwing his hands up, “Morrie will you explain for me!”
“You have to take care of your own dirty mess,” Morrie spit at him, her tail standing up and completely puffed out.
Morrie swung around and took off, running like a cat scared of its own shadow. Rudy and I silently watched her go. I turned and smacked Rudy’s shoulder unsure whether I was mad or not. Rudy flinched back from me, his face still stuck in a position of total shock. I just shook my head. I realized that I didn’t know how to feel about this because I knew nothing about Meera. Perhaps she didn’t care. I’ve seen her twice in my life for less than two minutes at a time; I have no right to even care about her feelings. Wow, I am the biggest girl ever.
“Well,” I shrugged, “may as well continue our tour of the town, eh?”
Rudy still looked troubled but nodded in return.
“I think we’ll be fine if we show ourselves around.”
The first thing I wanted to do was stroll down the street all the businesses were on. The road was paved with some sort of smooth red stone and this lane had the least shrubbery in town. Rochale told me that there were shops underground too, definitely worth a visit. I wonder what advertisement looks like in the world of magic.
