Prequel 1: When Darks Meets Light

The dancers in the court were entertaining us as food was being served. Everyone else had their meals apart from me. So when I finally saw my dish coming out of the kitchen my stomach let out a quite groan.

"Where have you been?" I asked hungrily. I never got angry with the staff, none of us did.

"Sorry ma'am, one of the chefs and to add something extra. I don't know what ma'am but he said it was a special something just for you." I smiled at the thought as she left.

It wasn't hard to pick up the fork by my side and slip it into the juicy beef with lime sauce. The dish was a specialty here and our chef was the best.

Once I swallowed I turned to my husband,

"Did you hire another chef without asking me?" I asked, pretending to sound hurt.

"I don't think so. Chef Burg said he would rather make all the dishes alone then have those 'pesky half chefs' running around him."

I turned to my husband,

"Then why did that girl say one of the chefs?" I asked franticly. The kitchen was the least secured part of the palace and practically anyone with an apron on could walk in there.

"I'll be right back" I said after taking several more bites of beef.

The hallway to the kitchen was dark and the usual bang of pots and pans didn't bounce off the painted walls. When I got half way down I had to lean on the wall for support. What was wrong with me? I was feeling light headed and dizzy and I had the feeling of revenge.

Something I normally didn't feel.

I carried on a few more paces but began falling to the ground. I saw the red carpet go black as my shadow feel across it. But I was stopped half-way by a pair of hands wrapping around my waist.

"Hello Poly, long time no see."

I woke in the hands of someone and it defiantly wasn't my husband. I turned and looked up into the black eyes of my former love, Jansen. His sly smirk put me on ends as I tried to sit up but he pushed me back down with a finger pressed on my mouth.

"Calm my love." He drawled to me, "you'll soon want to be closer to me."

"And why would I want to do that?" I retorted. Did I just snarl?

"Yer, 'cause I was the chef who put somethin' special in your dish." I cringed at what it could be, "And it was Darklort" he whispered In my ear, "two days from now, you will be dark my dear and then we shall rule." He silently stood up while letting me fall to a heap on the ground and he vanished.

"Is she ok?" I heard a faint voice ask.

"It's day two sire, we can't tell if she will wake but she is stable."

Day two? Stable? What does he mean? Last thing I remember is my falling to a heap on the ground and thinking I have two days of being light left and-

I shot up in my bed making the Dr and my husband who were talking at the end shriek.

"ImgoingdarktodayanditwasallJansen.hewasthemysterychefandhewantsmedarksowecanruleandnowyourgoingtokillmeasthatiswhatyoudoand, and, and I HATE YOU!" I screamed as I jumped and grabbed my husband's throat. He might as well be dead.

I was pulled back and restrained from jumping up by a rope being tied on my wrists. The Dr pulled out light and shined it in my eye.

"Darklort sire, she is too dark to reverse now. I am truly sorry." I strained at the ropes as I felt a needle prick my skin.

The room was dark and a faint white glow filtered through the light cotton curtains. I like the dark, you can hide more easily. I got up and felt the ropes were gone.

So that's why I woke. I got up and shuffled to the window where I pulled the curtain back. Jansen stood there with a bag and a ladder. He put the ladder against the wall and climbed. This side of the infirmary was bare of windows except mine. I watched Jansen's muscular body climb the ladder and once he reached the top he looked into my eyes.

"Good darlin'. You're fully dark. I've got a change of clothes for you baby." I took the bag and went inside while Jansen waited outside. As soon as I could I stripped of the ugly nurse gown. I pulled out the corset he had put in there and placed it around me. As I tied it up, he told me of the plans he had for destruction and terror and I laughed silently in glee.

Once my dress was on I put the black cloak he had with him and tied it around my pale neck and pulling the hood up, looked him in the eye.

"ready to leave baby?" he asked smirking.

"Never been more prepared" I replied as I kissed him slowly before departing down the ladder. He help me onto his horse and with a kiss and laugh at the Light's, we rode into the dark wood that surrounded the palace and town.
